At one time I had high hopes for the Swirlies, but the band has gone underground to the point where they hardly exist anymore. From what I read on the web, the new ep is just about as interesting/frustrating as everything else the Swirlies have done. I still harbor within my heart hopes that they might someday put out the truly amazing album that they clearly had the potential to make, but as the years go by, that seems less and less likely. Details on the new one are at allmusic. BTW, the Japanese documentary on the making of Spirited Away (part of the bonus materials on the DVD) is absolutely great, and very funny. I'm still reserving judgement, but as of now I like the new Yo La Tengo album much more than the (IMHO) way overrated "And Then Nothing..." and more than the (IMHO) overrated "I Can Hear..." And was it Andy who was asking about the Black Keys? Their new album has turned up on eMusic. Pretty startlingly authentic blues vocals, and hot shit guitar playing. Ragged drums. Not the sort of thing that I like, but pretty impressive, especially if it's coming (as I suspect) from a couple of geeky white guys. - --dana, wondering if Heather Phares is technically the most influental music critic in America ________________________________________________________________ Sign Up for Juno Platinum Internet Access Today Only $9.95 per month!
