That was my main worry when we were talking about this, since I use mine at work for about 8 hours a day, 5 days a week. Interesting (not necessarily for everyone) downloads on eMusic this week: Lightening Bolt, Glass Candy. See the new releases section at the Aquarius records website for more details. Finally, WFMU marathon is going on. Their dj premiums are pretty cool. I recommend Tony Coulter's show (based on what I got last year), but there are lots of good ones. - --dana ________________________________________________________________ Sign Up for Juno Platinum Internet Access Today Only $9.95 per month! I can plug in the AC adapter and boot normally, but nothing happens without the AC. However, if I remove the AC once the computer has powered on, it switches to battery power seamlessly. So the battery seems to be charging and holding its charge (also confirmed by the charge meter on the battery itself). I looked around the BIOS to see if some setting somehow got switched around, but there's nothing there that seems relevant to whether the computer will boot from the battery or not. Knocking around my usual tech support sites (including that of the manufacturer, Micron) and Googling didn't produce anything useful, so it's only now that I turn to Loud-Fans. Right now this is only a minor annoyance, since 90% of the time I have access to an AC outlet. But there will be a time in the near future where I'll need to boot from the battery. My copy arrived on Saturday and has already made it through a couple of dozen listens. Particular faves at the moment include the vast majority of the odd numbered tracks, best of all being 'thirteen grand', imo. It's also interesting that this pre-issue comes with some older, previously unreleased stuff, as that provides a comparison between the sounds. For other Wrens fans this seems to be a bit smoother and more laid back in tempo, while keeping a good degree of their originally oblique nature. I tried to take the test and gave up, because I was answering "not applicable" to everything. Then I took it again and gave the answers I would have given before my belief system fell apart. And I came out a Sikh, with Reform Judaism a close runner-up. Boo hoo! I wish there were more sides! After all of the hoopla, we come to a very straight ahead side 4 and I think it closes out the record in a perfect way. Chardonnay - I'm digging the tremelo guitar intro! Look out, here we come! A quintessential GT keyboard part that Shelley plays wonderfully. Lots of chords, the poor dear...Peppy Gil Ray drumming, which is even more impressive knowing that we weren't all that familiar with the arrangement of the song when we recorded it. Matter of fact, I got a rough mix of this and Scott was yelling out the changes to us as we were recording it. I had completely forgotten that the original length of this song was way longer than it ended up. I'm pretty sure he had to cut it down for space considerations, but I don't remember if that was because of vinyl or cd reasons. I do know that this was the very first cd I owned. I didn't get a player until later on.Groovy tambourine wore my ass out. I love the breakdown in the middle that leads into a very kickass bridge. I'm whomping the shit out of the drums at the end. Was CharDONNAY a play on DONNY? Hmmm. Last Day That We're Young - Damn! What a cool progression! Gui is playing a very great bass part (I think it's Gui...)Drums are sounding like drums on this side and you know that makes me happy. This is such a cool song! The interplay between the instruments is something to behold. "What was it we were always wanting? Didn't we know we had it all?" Damn. What a way for the band to end the record with.I really like that he put a bit of some of the weird tape manipulation stuff at the very end that leads to.... Together Now, Very Minor - I had nothing to do with this one and I think it's the most beautiful song on the album. Stuff running through a leslie is always good. I bet Mitch had something to do with that. OK. There you go. This was special mainly because I remember we were all still really good friends and thought "we had it all". It was the first record in a long while that the personel that played on it, actually got to tour for it also. We were gettin' along and playing really well together. The tour that followed was the most awesome tour I've ever been on.It just happens to be the tour that Donny booked. She did good. So did Shelley,Gui,myself, and of course Scott. He did real good.
