As some of you know I was in a band in the late 70s - we did the usual post-punk pop n thrash thing, played a few gigs around London in pubs and squats, etc etc. We issued a single which is now commanding stupid amounts on Ebay and for some reason we're now attracting attention from Japan and the far east. Some time back I put together, mainly for my own amusement a compilation onto CDR from cassettes which had been lying around rotting. The source material was recorded partly at a decent studio (De Lane Lea, where we had some free time) and from various other downmarket studios and some rehearsal stuff recorded on a cheap Philips cassette machine. The CDR has been advertised on our web site and I've had a few enquiries and sent out a half dozen copies. Now I've been approached by a record dealer in Tokyo (NAT Records, have a web site, seems legit) to supply him with up to 30 copies for them to sell. Apart from being totally stunned that anyone other than those who were there at the time might be interested I'm also at a bit of a loss as to how much to charge. I'll have to burn them, obviously, but CDRs are like 20p each here now - I don't really want to make money from it and what I get will go to charity - but I don't want to undersell myself either! Anyone have experience of a reasonable price level? That's right. I don't think the Supremes would have fried it. Well within Congress's powers.
