So far a mere 20 loudfans have checked in, which makes me heave a great sigh of despair. But it's a sigh of hopeful despair, because there are still 12 days left to vote. So please do! If you've already voted and want to change your mind, that's fine; just email me or submit another ballot under the same name. In a few days I may post a list of everything that's been voted for so far for those who don't obsessively track this kind of thing. a ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 19 Jan 2003 13:02:52 -0600 From: Jack Lippold Subject: [loud-fans] Joe Harrington entertained twice by our Scott Joe Harrington's last 25 of his top 100 is on line now and Lolita Nation is #4! 2 Steps at # 12! http://www.blastitude.com/14/pg4.htm ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 19 Jan 2003 14:12:48 -0500 (EST) From: Aaron Mandel Subject: Re: [loud-fans] Joe Harrington entertained twice by our Scott On Sun, 19 Jan 2003, Jack Lippold wrote: > Joe Harrington's last 25 of his top 100 is on line now and Lolita Nation > is #4! 2 Steps at # 12! http://www.blastitude.com/14/pg4.htm Gosh, I always wondered why Game Theory was better than REM, and now I know: it's because Michael Stipe isn't heterosexual enough. How nice. Y'know, I'm glad a relatively well known critic like Harrington is in Scott's corner and all - but christ he's annoying. Is he spooked about his working-class background or what? Half the time he writes as if he's some ignorant yutz from nowhere, when it's clear he knows a lot about music, and a bit about a few other things as well. It's insulting, actually, to people of working-class backgrounds...as if they can't know Coltrane and Ornette without hanging around the college kids. His language reminds me of the deal with Harvard-degree -bearing rock stars pretending to their origins in the illiterati - "she don't read no Derrida" - as if most folks who'd naturally use that grammar would even know Derrida to not read him. (And they're probably better off for that.) And what's with his homegrown slang? I have never in my life heard anyone refer to albums as "albs" - ick. I rather suspect his homophobic language ("dig me! I'm politically incorrect cuz I write 'diesel dykes'!") is part of the same defensive posture. ..Jeff J e f f r e y N o r m a n The Architectural Dance Society www.uwm.edu/~jenor/ADS.html :: "In two thousand years, they'll still be looking for Elvis - :: this is nothing new," said the priest. lp: DVD of _Y Tu Mama Tambien_ ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 19 Jan 2003 22:38:43 -0500 From: Dana Paoli Subject: Re: [loud-fans] Joe Harrington entertained twice by our Scott DVD of _Y Tu Mama Tambien_ >>>>>>>>>>>>>> My one sentence review: what Ween wish happened on their summer vacation in Mexico.
