That said, he really hasn't put out a worthwhile movie since He Got Game and even that was very flawed. Bamboozled was one of the most atrocious movies I've ever seen. Spike Lee didn't write 25th Hour. I couldn't resist seeing a Spike Lee movie with Edward Norton and Phillip Seymour Hoffman in it and sure enough they were the best thing about the movie. However, Spike Lee has been using the same annoying camera tricks, that were fun and fresh in Jungle Fever, for years and years and years now, as well as the same this banter is so hip and current and fresh idiom. He even rips off the racist venting from Do the Right Thing (yes this was in the original script which he didn't write, but he chose to shoot it in the same in your face style). I really wanted to like this movie, and I could recommend it as a rental, but with so many excellent films out right now I'd say skip it. Singing? Talking trash about Courtney Love? "newshour" did a story last year about low-powered radio last year, focusing on the folks of oroville, calif. and their station krbs. guess they talked to barbara for that story (she played a benefit for krbs) and subsequently decided to do a piece about her. sorry i didn't include more detail in my original post; i couldn't remember off the top of my head what the story was about and had to go back to the barbara manning mailing list archive to find the original post from last october. - -- amy Amy B. The #7 position is just a little way of noting that were good, quirky, thought-provoking romantic comedies released in 2002 (see also #9) which had nothing to do with J. Lo. or Hollywood. #9 is really just an award for the astounding Maggie Gyllenhaal. #10 may not deserve the position, but especially seeing it shortly after In the Bedroom, the emotional resonance sticks. - -------------------------------------- Michael J.
