Maybe I'm projecting the qualities I desire list members to have, but I really don't think so. Sure, lots of energy is spent on Gilpuff Girls and what have you, but, I think of a lot of the fodder on the list as a bunch of extremely intelligent and educated people goofing to pass the time, and, like Seinfeld says, "There's nothing wrong with that!" I just like the program. It gives my walnut sized brain a workout, and I thought some others would like it too. Sorry if I got defensive. I was thinking that I could send out my pic on request for downloading, so it could be used to vent frustrations...you know, like burning it, doing voodoo on it, throwing darts at it, that sort of thing. My head could be used and attached to different drawn bodies, like a priest, or a nurse, or a man in a straightjacket, or I could be put in a Bob Mackie dress, what have you. Hours of fun. Just a thought. A good weekend to all. I read a lot of their stuff last year - but for some reason, the stuff I've read this year hasn't worked well for me. It seemed sort of snark-overload. I'm tempted to say something snide about reading recaps of a horrifically awful show instead of doing something useful - except that I was debating the finer points of inflation with someone offlist, so I haven't got 1.8732 legs (in constant 1982 values) to stand on there. (Note: I never actually *watched* an episode of BACHinAL - but the two seconds of previews I did see were persuasively awful enough that I'm confident in stating that, on average, no matter how good the rest, it couldn't possibly rate any better than "horrifically awful.") - --Jeffrey with 2 Fs Jeffrey J e f f r e y N o r m a n The Architectural Dance Society www.uwm.edu/~jenor/ADS.html ::[clever or pithy quote]:: __[source of quote]__ ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 24 Oct 2002 17:33:22 -0400 (EDT) From: Aaron Mandel Subject: Re: [loud-fans] opera? The final episode's scenes on -- what was it called? Commitment Point or something? -- anyway, the show's little final ritual, which all reality shows seem to have, was bizarre and sad. The women stood out on some kind of promontory waiting for a plane to land. When it landed they would get to see if a man hopped out and embraced them, or if there was only an empty seat for them to climb into and ride back to Spinster Hotel (which I just made up, sorry). I really sort of dug it. The more strained reality shows get, it seems, the more I enjoy them. I think the remoteness of Alaska means that you, the viewer, know the emotions you're watching are probably pretty real as they're happening but won't leave any lengthy marks on the people feeling them. You're watching people on a rollercoaster ride. Real people, real rollercoaster, but staged nevertheless. I mean, yes, I have better things to do, but it's no less interesting than listening to a lot of songwriters trying to pour their hearts out. a ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 24 Oct 2002 14:37:49 -0700 (PDT) From: "Joseph M. In fact, I read recaps of only those shows that I watch, and only reality shows, so that may be why I liek it so much - I'm in full agreement with the snark. > (Note: I never actually *watched* an episode of BACHinAL - but the two > seconds of previews I did see were persuasively awful enough that I'm > confident in stating that, on average, no matter how good the rest, it > couldn't possibly rate any better than "horrifically awful.") And therein lay the attraction. It was so much worse than the previews looked.
