(AP) -- Singer-songwriter Ryan Adams is not amused by the similarity of his name to Canadian rocker Bryan Adams. At a Ryan Adams concert at the Ryman Auditorium on Tuesday, someone in the audience yelled out a request for Summer of '69, a Bryan Adams hit. Ryan Adams, former leader of the band Whiskeytown, reacted with stream of expletives and ordered the house lights turned on, the Tennessean newspaper reported. The alternative country musician found the fan who made the joke request, paid him $30 cash as a refund for the show, ordered him to leave and said he wouldn't play another note until that happened. Ryman general manager Pam Matthews stopped the fan on his way out, "apologized profusely" and allowed him back into the concert. The fan kept Adams's $30. I had never gotten around to picking up "Her Wallpaper Reverie" but lo and behold: their whole catalog is on eMusic! But the reason I'm posting is that eMusic also has a "exclusive" live set of theirs (which I haven't had a chance to download yet, so I can't say whether it's good or not). Includes a bunch of stuff from Discovery, but they don't give the date of the concert. I'll calm down on the eMusic thing soon, but right now one pleasant surprise is following another. - --dana ________________________________________________________________ GET INTERNET ACCESS FROM JUNO! My pal Dean Carlson turned me on to this early in the summer. I'm wondering if the art store had something else in the changer with the Streets, since ORIGINAL PIRATE MATERIAL is just about 100% rap, albeit with the heavy West Indian vibe on the backing tracks, as you'd expect out of the U.K. Anyway, I find it to be pretty entertaining, even the opening GLADIATOR-like bit where our singer claims to be a descendant of the Britain-occupyin' Romans. "Geezers need excitement" was probably our catchphrase of the summer. And so far, even the things I thought I'd tire of quickly, like "The Irony of It All" (a "contrast and compare" between thuggish weekend drunks and devotees of Le Weed), have held up pretty well. As much as I would have liked to have been that fellow, I wasn't -- they would have had to have paid me more than $30 to put up with Ryan Adams. It would have been even more funny if the heckler had been 12th & Porter's booker, John Bruton (namechecked on a DEMOLITION song). Traffic about this incident on other lists suggests that the "Bryan Adams heckler" is, sadly, a plant, since this apparently happened during at least one other gig. In other, even more sad Ryan Adams news, Melissa reports that the chain graffiti in 12th & Porter's ladies' room comparing Mr. R. Rock and Suck. Rock and Suck. Ryan Adams was so incredibly horrible that it made me not want to listen to his records any more. He is just an ass. I say that first because he and his band seemed to have no setlist and they would "jam" for about 5 minutes in every song. The word ass also comes to mind because of his response to a heckle I offered up. I yelled for "Summer of 69" (an obvious Bryan Adams joke), which resulted in the drummer flicking me off before I finished yelling, the guitarist saying "he he he" in a snickering tone and Mr. Adams jumping down my throat. Here is a brief paraphrase: "Hey man, I wasn't even born in 69, so don't fuck around. Oh, and I make more money in two days then you'll make all year." Then he starts into a "hard" song. This would be less amusing if the whole crowd wasn't laughing at him and his ridiculous reaction. The whole scene was priceless. The other big downer was not seeing Paula Derdiger. I wasn't promised a phone call this weekend so that I could see her and I got nothing. A letdown.
