However, you certainly don't need to have done time reporting on weird subcultures to know that Portland (and the surrounding areas) is a very popular destination for extremists of all political bents. There have been enough news reports for it to qualify as common knowledge. ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 06 Oct 2002 10:56:42 -0600 From: Roger Winston Subject: Re: [loud-fans] My Day in Court At Sunday 10/6/2002 09:56 AM -0400, JRT456@aol.com wrote: >However, you certainly don't need to >have done time reporting on weird subcultures to know that Portland (and the >surrounding areas) is a very popular destination for extremists of all >political bents. If you mean extreme lovers of good music, then Portland's chock full of 'em!! Take THAT, San Francisco and New York! But why would the FBI be interested in them? I mean, how much like a commercial is that? I must not be a man 'cause I don't smoke the same cigarettes as them. They were telling me I should get cable internet and tv cable combo for like, 70 dollars a month. Uh, yeah. I could buy about 5 CDs for that! That's 840 dollars a year! Get a life. When my free AOL service (got 2 months free, because I called and wanted to disconnect) ends, I'm going back to free Juno. I don't like people going into my bank account, and I can spend that 24 bucks on a good hardcover. I just don't think you should have to pay for the web, not if you can put up with floating ad banners on the free services. I have adverts on my AOL service and I PAY. My parents got cable TV in the mid seventies so they wouldn't have to see commercials. That lasted for like, one year. Why do people act like it's A) so novel to not have a cable modem and no cable tv and B) to not download all of your music from the web? I've downloaded maybe 2 MP3s in four years online, and they were from Sue's site. I should do more, but I just forget about it. I need to check back there more often. As far as Napster, I never used it, not even once. By the time I got around to downloading the software, they were out of business. I think you can enjoy the web just fine without all that other stuff. But, then again, I stopped and admired a new Toyota Echo today and thought it was really attractive and roomy and nice, so I guess I'm a freak, right?
