I didn't notice anyone bringing this up, but the new Queens of the Stone Age album is durn swell-tacular. Probably the best (only?) "fake radio" album since the Alberto Y Lost Trios Paranoias' "Radio Sweat". Also, the new Mekons album "OOOH!" is probably my favorite of theirs since "Return To Memphis". I am feeling happy-bordering-on-giddy-stupid about not only going to Chicago in another week and hanging out with old friends again, but also seeing The Mekons, Wire, and Queens of the Stone Age over three consecutive nights. If that documentary on the making of "Yankee Hotel Foxtrot" (anyone on the list seen this yet?) was still at The Music Box, I'd have a stupid grin on my face to last me the whole remainder of the year. The Soft Boys' "Nextdoorland" isn't an unhinged-pop masterpiece like "Underwater Moonlight" was (well, they are twenty years older and thankfully somewhat more mature), but I wouldn't call it a letdown by any stretch. It's the best record I've heard Robyn do with an electric band since... I don't know, at least "Queen Elvis". I couldn't care less about Aimee Mann. Sorry for being such a heretic. I know, "go back to lurking then". At least I didn't bring up the new Dillinger Escape Plan EP (with Mike Patton as guest vocalist), or how their cover of Aphex Twin's "Come To Daddy" is to the original what The Residents' version of "Satisfaction" was to the Stones'. Well, other than right then, that is. You think I ain't worth a dollar, but I feel like a millionaire, Mike Bollman ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 05 Sep 2002 02:30:48 -0400 From: jenny grover Subject: Re: [loud-fans] Who cares? And the bonus DVD that comes with the first shipment is pretty fun, too! The set has been going for as cheap as $6.99 at places like Circuit City. I think Best Buy has it for $7.99. They are scheduled to play Letterman on Monday night. You can get tour dates at www.qotsa.com Jen ------------------------------ End of loud-fans-digest V2 #315 *******************************
