I have a couple of questions. What are the good bookstores, especially gay/lesbian. And record stores. And which are the good museums to go to. I'm going to be with Mom, so I kind of need some mother/daughter things to go do, so she doesn't get board when I go to record stores:-). (forgive me, I'm catching up on a week's worth of list mail) WLBS, the short-lived (modern rock? new wave? dance rock? -- I forget exactly how they promoted themselves for the 6 months or so they survived) Detroit-area station from the early 80's actually had "Her Head's Revolving" and "Jetfighter" in rotation, which was my first exposure to the 80's California psych boomlet. -d.w. ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 04 Aug 2002 17:16:13 -0700 From: "W. David Barnes" Subject: Re: [loud-fans] San Francisco Trip-Not Entirely OT Hi Andrea: I have two favorite record stores in the City, both in the Haight. Recycle Records on Haight and Masonic and Amoeba on Haight and Stanyan. Both of them have a good collection of all sort of stuff, indy and beyond and both of them feature vinyl. Amoeba in sheer size and selection dwarfs Recycled but I've been going there since they were over in North Beach so have some emotional ties (it Was sort of like my 'High Fidelity' place. Nice thing about going to the Haight is that there is enough of a variety of places there so your mom shouldn't be bored... As for books, Green Apple on Clement and 6th (maybe 5th), Alexander Books on 2nd and Market and A Clean Well Lighted Place for Books on Van Ness (600 block) are favorites though I can't really tell you how strong their gay/lesbian selection is. I asked a friend who wholeheartedly recommended A Different Light at 489 Castro but don't have a whole lot of first hand knowledge of the store. Hope that helps!
