I bought the reissue of the Go-Betweens' BH and, I know this sounds like sour grapes, but I think the 1990 Rough Trade CD version of the album sounds better. The midrange on the old one is more immediate...warmer, and the high end on the new one sounds...how do I put it...clipped? I don't know how the 1996 Beggars Banquet version of this sounded, but, unless you are really hankering for the bonus disc, don't lose any sleep over this reissue. The video is really great, though rather jerky on my computer (the mouse on the exercise wheel needs changing). I enjoy early videos with no budgets, as it puts true creativity to the test. This video is warm and intimate (I've never seen it before), and suits "Cattle and Cane" well. "Storytelling": I finally got to see it today. This is the ultimate modern tragedy. I think it is Solondz' best film yet. Like his other films, it is so tragic, you just have to laugh. Or check yourself into a psychiatric hospital. Your choice. The highlights for me were the magic realist special effects when Belle and Sebastian's "The State I Am In" was playing, and the Conan O' Brien dream sequence. Damn this is a good film. A good Sunday to all, - -Mark Staples ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 28 Jul 2002 02:55:32 EDT From: Boyof100lists@aol.com Subject: [loud-fans] a reissue we all will want I forgot to mention this earlier. In case you didn't know, Collectors Choice Music has slated for 8/17 release the Three O' Clock's "Arrive Without Travelling" and "Ever After" on one CD! If you are like me, you already have the latter on CD, but there's no grumbling on this end to fork over the cash for finally having AWT in digital! (wasn't this digitally recorded btw?) You can get it from the Collectors Choice site now. Also, they have out a CD of Oh-OK's material, but I couldn't get a release date for that on my local store's computer. I think you can get this one through the website now as well. I did see a Collectors Choice issue in the store of the first two Jam albums on one disc. The want list gets longer and longer.... Have some wheat. - -Mark Staples ------------------------------ End of loud-fans-digest V2 #257 *******************************
