Though I'd love it if Salem would sit in with Dumptruck - it would be great to hear him and Tiven play guitar together again. I thought that was the best Dumptruck line-up: Tiven, Salem, with Brian Dunton on bass and Shawn Devlin on drums (who would go on to be Helium's first rhythm section). There was some serious, awe-inspiring guitar work being thrown around there. I thought it was the best playing Salem has ever done (though his brief stint with Blood Oranges was pretty scorching). I saw The Reivers when they were still Zeitgeist at Maxwell's once; they were great. I thought it was interesting that they were forced to change their name to one that fit them much better (I thought they were going to be some Kraut electronica band before I heard them). After Fetchin' Bones broke up their drummer Macky Mueller moved to Park Slope, Brooklyn and formed the percussion-oriented band Mecca Bodega with his brother. Like Mary Lou Lord, they're a band best appreciated on a subway platform. I met Macky, by chance, the day he moved to Brooklyn - he's a sweet guy, amazing percussionist. Hopelessly obscure alt-rock trivia: the first version of Mary Lorson's solo band (which never played out, before she decided to join Madder Rose) was Macky on drums, Mary and Kevin Salem on guitars, and yours truly on bass. I think Adam Miller from the Bar None band The Johnsons was involved, too, but I can't remember what he played... Just to round out the 80s alt-rock thread-tying: does everybody know that the original Camper Van Beethoven line-up is playing the Knitting Factory July 19 and 20? There was a Nicola in Boyracer, and I have vague memories of a song (possibly an instrumental) being named after her.
