Chris Stamey's new band, The Mod Squad, will be opening for Jonathan Richman this Saturday night here at the Cat's Cradle. There is also pretty good info that a new album is due shortly. I have to tell you I am excited to see this guy return after a 5 or 6 year hiatus. Well not exactly a total hiatus, he has done a lot of production work and has made a few appearances on other's albums, but this will be his first with a band since the Alaska ep from 1995. First a dB's website after all these years and now Chris' return...I am psyched! - -Larry ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 14 Feb 2002 15:02:13 -0500 From: "Chris Murtland" Subject: Re: [loud-fans] Stamey returns Oh boy, you woke me up with that one, Larry. Just looked up this review -- it's an interesting idea, and potentially meshes with what I remember being a *very* understated treatment of the gay characters in Millers Crossing. But I'm not convinced. In the same vein, though, what *I* thought was going on in The Man Who Wasn't There is that Crane is the archetypal film noir viewer personified. He just watches and watches and watches as a series of disasters unfolds for his pleasure, and it's never exactly resolved -- just ended. a ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 14 Feb 2002 23:27:49 -0600 (CST) From: Jeffrey with 2 Fs Jeffrey Subject: [loud-fans] letters column, March 2002 _Harper's_ from one Andy Davis, of Jersey City, NJ: - ---- It's a small thing, but while we are trying to clear up the mystery of Dan Rather's attackers ["The Frequency," December 2001], let's clear up something that is certain: Scott Miller, in his legendary band Game Theory, kicked off the underground classic album _Lolita Nation_ with the song "Kenneth - What's the Frequency?" a good seven years before REM plundered it.
