Okay, I wasn't laughing my ass off or even close. Okay, the record store owner clearly melds Annie Potts of PRETTY IN PINK with the Jack Blackian aspects of conscience at Championship Vinyl. Okay, first-episode stiffness-in-exposition abounds. All that said, I'll probably watch at least another episode or two. Tinsley Grimes as the sister with the perpetual bow and especially Chyler Leigh as the punkette (Claire Danes with attitude to burn?) certainly caught my eye. Other opinions? I imagine I'd be more interested if they focused on folk who were sixteen in '84, as I was. But we've got any number of folk here who were 22 (plus) in '84. And who knows, maybe some of them lived in San Diego... ...finally, while I was not, again, blown off my feet, I'm left wondering on the other hand: did the inagural episode of "That 70's Show" look brilliant right out of the box? Hoping I'm not the only one giggling insanely at the theme song, too. More of a non-winner, Andy Steve Wozniak, the technical visionary and co-founder of Apple Computer, unveiled plans Wednesday for "Wheels of Zeus," a new company that will design wireless products. Wozniak, who recently took a seat on the board of directors of Danger, a wireless service provider, has received the National Medal of Technology and was inducted into the Inventors Hall of Fame in 2000. His new venture, Wheels of Zeus, or "wOz," is a play on Wozniak's nickname. The company, which has received $6 million in funding from venture capital firms Draper Fisher Jurvetson, Palo Alto Investors and Mobius Venture Capital, plans to make wireless devices that will "help everyday people track everyday things," according to a statement. Wozniak said the new devices would be made possible by "recent advances in global positioning software (GPS) systems and antenna technology coupled with the declining cost of processing power and two-way networking." Beyond general descriptions offered in the company's release, wOz's plans are vague. Wozniak will create "another offering as ubiquitous and useful as the personal computer," said Tim Draper, the founder and managing director at Draper, who will serve as chairman of the company's newly formed advisory board. Greg Galanos, managing director at Mobius, will also serve on the company's board. Wozniak launched Apple with high-school friend Steve Jobs in 1976. Not too bad for an import album, I guess. As always, ymmv. One tidbit from the 7 Worlds Collide DVD is that there should be another Finn Bros. album this year. Best I can tell, Nettwerk will be releasing the 7WC CD and DVD, but you can get them both from for around $25.00 U.S. (including airmail). The DVD is Region 4 PAL, so you'll need one of those shady players if you can't wait. There are 2 One Nil songs on the CD and 3 more on the DVD, and they get a more strait-ahead treatment from the band. The 7WC lineup is Neil, Tim, Liam's band, Johnny Marr, Eddie Vedder, Ed O'Brien, Philip Selway, Sebastian Steinberg, and Lisa Germano. Good fun if you want to hear Neil do There Is A Light That Never Goes Out or Eddie prove that he is indeed a Split Enz fan, in addition to the various solo turns and Neil/Tim songs. Just to keep things simple, the Nettwerk version of One Nil will be called One All. - - Steve __________ I know that it's cynical, but I feel that civil liberties-for a lot of these people in Congress-are either an inconvenience or a campaign slogan. They care only about money and power. - Wil Wheaton ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 24 Jan 2002 00:29:23 -0500 (EST) From: dmw Subject: Re: [loud-fans] Introduction On Wed, 23 Jan 2002, Janet Ingraham Dwyer wrote: > This bit of Brendan's bio piqued my interest too, actually. (I'm not sure "indicator" is the proper term; I mean an open- er, handedness leading to musical open-minded ness? hmm. i don't know that i'm a very good example; i always thought of myself as purely right-handed until i got serious about guitar and started learning to write/eat left-handed for a lark. well, i guess there was the running-a-typing-service thing. there seem to be a fair number of things (musical instruments, keybds) that assign both hands more-or-less equal responsibility. i think i'd be surprised if there were a strong correlation one way or t'other. but i like surprises. - -- d. - ------------------------------------------------- Mayo-Wells Media Workshop dmw@ http://www.mwmw.com mwmw.com Web Development * Multimedia Consulting * Hosting ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 24 Jan 2002 00:56:09 EST From: AWeiss4338@aol.com Subject: Re: [loud-fans] Introduction In a message dated 1/23/02 11:40:49 PM Eastern Standard Time, janet@simplyliving.org writes: > This bit of Brendan's bio piqued my interest too, actually. So they decided to make me left handed, which was the hand I used most. So I'd go pound on egg cartons with a wooden mallet for a half hour each day until they deemed me a leftie. It was so stupid. And as an adult, it never took real affect, while I use, say my left hand to write, I use the mouse on my PC with my right. And fine I can't do either with the other hand.
