And I just want to say that I do SO know how to spell "imminent" and was only flustered into such a thorough mangling of the word from having had to post my intro four different times, including unsubbing and resubbing to the list because I finally worked out that it was my ISP's name change last August that was preventing me from being able to get anything through, not to mention that apparently I can't use my editor while telnetting... I just wanted to mention it because it's been bugging the crap out of me since I saw my post finally appear, and it doesn't help that I've been gently corrected by another lister and I really really really did know better. There, I feel better now. The matinee all-ages Burma show totally rocked, the extended-jam finale was "Heart of Darkness," and we got free doughnuts. At one point the drummer for the opening band (Black Helicopter) went offstage, loaded a drumstick with doughnuts, and walked along the apron of the stage passing them out. It was the most all-ages I've ever seen a club show - there were several small children there, as well as a couple of parents with teenaged kids. Quite amazing. First disc burned turned out perfect, in terms of what I inputted, except for two problems: (i) I fucked up and should have faded a track that, on CD, crossfaded into the next; (ii) the last note of a track ("Savoy Truffle") disappeared completely. I thought at first that the source CD had been misindexed, so I appended "Savoy Truffle" to the front of "Cry Baby Cry" (the following track on the white album) in hopes that it would be found there, thinking I'd just edit out the rest of "CBC." Nope, not there either. My question: where the hell is it? (It's the 30th anniversary edition in the cardboard mock-double-LP slipcase, FWIW). I could try to be *really* tricky and make a new file of just the *second* last note which, being the same as the actual last note, I could then append...but (a) that sounds like too much work, and (b) probably wouldn't really sound right anyway. Dammit, I know that note's in there somewhere. Oh: I'm using Nero 5.5 on a TDK VeloCD 24X/10X/40X, running Windows 98, and am wearing black jeans. - --Jeffrey with 2 Fs Jeffrey, looking for a website to dominate J e f f r e y N o r m a n The Architectural Dance Society www.uwm.edu/~jenor/ADS.html ::Solipsism is its own reward:: __Crow T. Yikes. Pre or post-Bauhaus?) Goth? Oh well. Anycow, this is technically post-Bauhaus - but spiritually pre-Bauhaus. (In the mind of Plasticland, it's always 1967.) Me, I like the mellotron flute thing at the beginning, the additive song structure, and the blaring train whistle (just an out-of-tune mellotron) near the end - - as well as the fact that the lyrics are just a retelling of the fairy tale. Oh yeah - big mellotron string ending for Joe Mallon. > MX-80 "Promise of Love" (So was this a Codeine song > first or just a Codeine cover of MX-80? I thought only > Codeine sounded like this.) Hell, MX-80 usually didn't sound like this. Very pre-Codeine: 1979 or 1980 (I'm lazy right now - AMG will tell you.) Never thought of that...but you're right. I like the strange, slightly jazz chords. > Radiohead "In Limbo" (How does a band this great stay > on a major label?) By somehow managing to hit No. 1 on the charts? Aw-Tek-Er? Oh-tek?) Autechre eschew bourgeois notions like "pronouncibility" and the dominance of right-brain, verbal culture. The stark, futuristic geometry of letters will further the inevitable collapse of the patriarchal language virus. Free yourself from the creative shackles of "pronouncing" anything: go to your record store clerk with a sign, or a painting!
