If you live in Boston, that's me! To my mind, Grey & Pink and Waterloo Lily and the most "proggy" Caravan albums, so if you want something a tad more pop, you'll find it on just about anything else of theirs. "For Girls Who Grow Plump in the Night" is the nicest mix of the two, and I also unloaded by non-reissue copy of that. I usually run about six months to a year or so behind you uber hip Loudfans on films since a majority of you live in cities that can support the smaller ones, so I'm pretty late to the party here, but I rented "The Tao of Steve," really enjoyed it, and was curious what other roles female lead Greer Goodman has played in. An internet search proved fruitless. She looks extremely familiar. Also liked the Lemonheads songs in the film. Evan Dando...when he's on, ("It's a Shame About Ray") he's great. When he's off, ("Car Button Cloth")...oy. Here's a scary thought: It's been about a decade since "It's a Shame About Ray," and the "Mrs. Robinson" single...and Dando and Juliana Hatfield were almost at the point where they could've marketed their sexual tension to sell products to the (then) twenty somethings, like James Garner and Mariette Hartley did with Polaroid.... The arpeggiated part is actually a synthesizer. When I first recorded that, I was initially tempted to go back and tweak, because the vocals don't keep up with the accompaniment in the choruses since I wisely neglected to write in a beat to inhale, and the synth part goes out of synch with the rest of the track at the end of the second chorus. I kept it as is upon realizing that both those "errors" made the recording more accurately evocative of the actual experience. I used to hang out occasionally with these two when they lived in Greensboro. Great folks, tell 'em I said hey. I'll just add that Lynn's from Winston-Salem, and I think she went to Reynolds High School as did Holsapple, Stamey, Easter, etc. She'd be about a half-generation younger, but definitely they all knew each other. She also toured as an extra member of Let's Active in the mid 80's. Also in the early 90's there was something of a male/female acoustic duet thing going on, with Don Dixon & Marti Jones, Mary Chapin Carpenter & John Jennings, etc. Lynn & John shared a number of bills like that, and while I never saw Holsapple & Cowsill in that format, I have a hunch that they would've been doing it too. Is this downloadable anywhere on the web, Dennis? Sounds like big fun. A Christmas tune I haven't seen mentioned yet: RuPaul's discofied "Little Drummer Boy," which I don't own, but would like to. I nominally hate Christmas music, but what can I say, I heard Bob Seger's "Little Drummer Boy" in Safeway this morning, and a lump formed in the ol' throat. Doesn't Joan Jett have a version as well? Low's CHRISTMAS ep is quite righteous, too--half traditionals, half originals. It was hampered, in my area anyway, by half-assed distribution on initial release, but I'm hoping for rectification on that this year. DIE HARD just might be my favorite Yuletide movie, but two others are John Cassavetes' FACES and, as of this afternoon, Daryl Duke's THE SILENT PARTNER.
