The model considers the performance of Perot in '96, but no consideration is given to Buchanan's unchallenged 8,788 votes in Palm Beach County during the '96 Republican Presidential primary--and that was with Buchanan's campaign in death throes. This also makes the use of Bush's vote count questionable as the conservative model. At least the author refers to his model as simple and crude--although I don't know if there's really a fair way to represent the natural advantage Buchanan had as a Reform candidate where three of the five state Reform candidates were running in districts which included Palm Beach. I also have my doubts about the guy's claim that Palm Beach County stands out significantly after his own model predicts a mere 421 votes for Buchanan. In fact, Buchanan received 0.46% of Florida's statewide vote, and there were eight counties where he did even better than the 0.78% he scored in Palm Beach County--all of them counties with a smaller population (and, near as I know, no butterfly ballots). That said, it's a good thing the Commie lost. ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 15 Nov 2001 01:31:15 -0500 From: jenny grover Subject: Re: Subject: Re: [loud-fans] No, I won't let it go!!! (MilitaryEdition) Pardon my ignorance, but how does anyone know whether or not a particular ballot belonged to an African American, or any other group member, for that matter? Nowhere on my ballot did it ask me what ethnic group, sex, or party affiliation I was. ------------------------------ End of loud-fans-digest V1 #306 *******************************
