[Jeffrey with 2 Fs Jeffrey ] ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Date: Fri, 24 Aug 2001 00:34:50 -0700 (PDT) From: Sarah Gordon Subject: [loud-fans] parting gifts Hey, As some of you know, I'm heading off to Europe to do some extensive traveling soon. I'm starting my travels in Warsaw and continuing on from there as interest dictates. I'll not be able to stay subscribed to the list during my trip, so I must say farewell for now. Before I go, I wanted to give away some extra copies of GT/LF-related CDs I've found over the years and have been using as loaner copies for friends. I'm trying to get rid of all the excess stuff in my life before leaving on my trip, I figured these CDs would find good homes on this list. Rules: The CD will be sent at not cost to the first person who sends email directly to me to request it. If you already have the CD, you may not ask for it as a second copy. You may not re-sell this copy (else the karma police will get you for sure!) Oh, and one CD per person, but if there are multiple items you don't have that you are interested in, feel free to send an ordered list of your preferences, and I will give you the first one that hasn't been claimed. Enough with the rules, here's what's up for grabs: Game Theory _Lolita Nation_ Yeah, yeah, you've heard all the fuss, but if you've never actually heard the album, here's your chance to own your very own copy. Be warned that the back is a bit scratched up, but it plays okay on my CD player. Game Theory _Tinkers to Evers to Chance_ An excellent starting point if you've never heard anything by Game Theory. Game Theory _2 Steps from the Middle Ages_ Though there are mixed opinions on this album, I quite enjoy this CD. It may be the GT album I listen to the most (even if it is not the one I think is the best...) Um, but then I also like TTOOL and listen to it more than PABARAT, so take my opinion with a grain of salt. V/A _Alias w/ a Bullet_ Contains the only CD version of the Loud Family covering "You Can't Put Your Arms Around A Memory", as well as a couple other LF and GT songs. V/A _Yellow Pills Volume 4_ Contains LF's "Chicago and Miss Jovan's Land-O-Mat". Also contains Anton Barbeau's "Octagon" and other power pop miscellany. Especially since it includes that great single as a bonus. Three things that I didn't know: 1. My Bloody Valentine Ecstasy And Wine PS, UK Limited edition re-press of 1989 collection combining the pre-Isn't Anything EPs Ecstasy and Strawberry Wine. 10 tracks. Lazy-012 CD $17.25 >>>>>>>>>>>> I could probably live a full life without any more MBV, but this is probably interesting to some? From parasol.com. 2. For NYC folk?: The Virgin Megastore at 14th street has Teenage Fanclub's "Howdy" a.k.a. "The one that's too fucking expensive 'cause it never came out domestically" for $13.99. I'm not clear on whether that's due to a domestic release finally or what, but I snapped it up and it's every bit as good as anything else they've done. In fact, it's sounding very very good at first listen. 3. Using all the money that I saved on that, I bought the ridiculously priced new Super Furry Animals CD "Rings Around the World" and hey, what do you know, it's pretty great too. For the most part, it's a return to their pre-Guerilla sound, which was a very Bowie-in-the-'70's meets the occasional techno sound effect kind of a deal. "Guerilla" of course was more of a Techno sound effects meet Bowie in the '70's kind of a deal. And "Mwng" was somewhat lo-fi and all in Welsh, not that there's anything wrong with that. All in all, I'm very happy with "Rings Around the World" and where it finds the Furries. One song in particular contains one of the stranger sonic meltdowns that I've heard -- sort of like if Crosby Stills Nash and Young were suddenly attacked by Pro Tools. God bless the Welsh and their eccentricities. BTW, I was watching the video on the reissue of the Marine Girls CD today, and it shows them at an English amusement park. After chowing down on Candy Floss, they all go on the Helter Skelter ride. And when they get to the bottom, they go back to the top of the slide. I never knew. But I guess that makes four things. - --dana ________________________________________________________________ GET INTERNET ACCESS FROM JUNO! Juno offers FREE or PREMIUM Internet access for less! This is a pretty good record - but very different sonically from _Isn't Anything_ or _Loveless_. I haven't listened to it for a while, but if I'm remembering right it reminds me more of early Creation stuff (logically) or some of the more straightforward 4.A.D. stuff from around that time. - --Jeff J e f f r e y N o r m a n The Architectural Dance Society www.uwm.edu/~jenor/ADS.html ::Why should we value the work ethic ::when employers care so little about the pay ethic? __Barbara Ehrenreich__ np: The Embarrassment _Heyday_ disc 1 ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 25 Aug 2001 00:59:45 -0400 From: jenny grover Subject: [loud-fans] aimee mann vid You can go here to watch a vid of Calling It Quits: http://www.v2music.com/Territories/index.cfm?fuseaction=Showvideo&media_id=1&mediatype=3&artist=Aimee Mann ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 25 Aug 2001 00:19:47 -0500 (CDT) From: Jeffrey with 2 Fs Jeffrey Subject: [loud-fans] _Glad Girls_ ep?
