Actually, I had an interesting argument with a friend of mine many years ago on this subject, where she took that point and I said uniqueness modifiers were acceptable. I made the mistake of proving my point with her dictionary (an American Heritage of unknown revision), which had a specific note saying that even though some people didn't like modifiers they were becoming more prevalent and were considered legal. Or something like that. I thought that was relatively unique. The rest of the album is equally excellent, and fans of Game Theory, REM, Throwing Muses, etc. will love this album. I found them on MP3.com and ended up buying one of their CDs. They remind me a bit of early Game Theory -- lots of fun to listen to. Just FWIW. Cobain was well aware of this. On 'In Bloom,' Cobain sang about fans who like his songs and like to sing along but 'don't know what it means.' These fans still bought his records. Haven't tried it, but it could be because too many people are trying to connect at once. Maybe try again at a later time. Your call is important to us, J. I can't seem to get enough of it. The band has two songwriters who literally alternate tracks contributing vocals/ compositions. The guy on the even numbered tracks, Stephen Palmer, is a vocal dead ringer for Elvis Costello circa "Trust"/"This Year's Model" and his material isn't far from the days when EC used to bash them out, either. Odd track man George Dubber is a tad janglier and seems more interested in a "Pleasant Valley Sunday" 60s style, but he has enough toughness to remind me of Velvet Crush or 20/20. A nice discovery, and it's getting some college play here, to boot. Since I recall the Colorblind James Experience being mentioned here before (I even bought their CD from one of you....doug?) I thought of the list when I read today that one of their members was found dead in a swimming pool in Rochester NY recently. ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 14 Aug 2001 01:01:17 -0500 (CDT) From: Jeffrey with 2 Fs Jeffrey Subject: Re: [loud-fans] Rave for Fletcher-Pratt On Mon, 13 Aug 2001 GlenSarvad@aol.com wrote: > Anyone else heard the new CD "Nine By Nine" by Detoit power pop band Fletcher > Pratt (on Rainbow Quartz, distributed by Parasol)? Because the CD itself doesn't say who sings which tracks, and none of the materials I could find do, either. (Or maybe you know the band? Although they're in Detroit, and you're in...Georgia? Can't recall...) Stewart will probably chime in soon to say The Fletcher Pratt are fine and all, but you really should check out their labelmates the Asteroid #4. I haven't heard their new one, but I'll let him give ya details. I love the Fletcher Pratt record (although it doesn't really catch fire for me until about two-thirds of the way through), but yeah, the new Asteroid #4, KING RICHARD'S COLLECTIBLES, is thoroughly awesome. As I've said, it's like the one really great album the Lilys never *quite* made.
