I had see this movie before some years ago, and while the movie is undeniably stupid, the music is good, and one song in particular, the title song, I took a shine to. However, I have never known who does it, have never found the soundtrack, and last night, as before when I saw it, they scrunched up the end credits tiny so they could put ads for upcoming shows on most of the screen, so I couldn't read the credits. Every time I try to find this song, I turn up lots of other songs with the same name that aren't the same song. Does anyone know who does this version of this particular "The In Crowd?" Ramsey Lewis Trio. This is an all instrumental, mostly jazz track, and one of the more famous pieces of sixties soul jazz, slightly pre-dating, but still tangetally culpable for, fusion. Still one of the great jazz/rock crossover tunes, and available everywhere. 2. The Mamas and the Papas and Coasters both had lesser hits with vocal versions of the same song. Hope that helps! jenny grover wrote: > > Okay, last night I suffered through "The In Crowd" on WGN (actually, I > taped it so I wouldn't miss the Indians game). They said it's a real crowd pleaser, and gets everybody singing along. Do I chalk this one up to bad Canadian taste, or can someone vouch for this song's credibility?? 'What does it mean, Number 6?' 'It means what it is' _________________________________________________________________ Get your FREE download of MSN Explorer at http://explorer.msn.com/intl.asp ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 04 Aug 2001 14:56:31 -0400 From: jenny grover Subject: Re: [loud-fans] bad movie music trivia triggercut wrote: > > Never seen the movie, but the most famous versions of a song called "The > In Crowd" I know of are... > > 1. The song in question is very 60's Motown pop style, but sounds like a white guys singing it. (But not Joe Jackson). Doesn't sound like the Mama's and Papa's (none of that harmony nor voices that sound like theirs). Some lyrics are "I'm in with the in crowd. I go where the in crowd goes..." Man, it was a tortuous path through convoluted searches, though. The only movie that searches turned up is some new one that's apparently a sex thriller! And it proves how poorly amazon.com's search engine works, since a song search didn't turn it up, but an artist album search did. Hmmm.... Anyway, it appears to be Dobie Gray who did it in the movie, credited as being written by Billy Page. (I found a Ramsey Lewis sample and it does sound like the same tune, from what little was there). Anyway, thanks for all your leads. You can probably find an real audio clip on CDnow or amazon to check... - ----- Original Message ----- From: "O Geier" To: ; Cc: Sent: Saturday, August 04, 2001 11:27 AM Subject: Re: [loud-fans] bad movie music trivia > Another great version is by Joe Jackson, on 'Summer in the City', he couples > it with 'Down to London' from 'Blaze of Glory', which is similar in > structure. > > > >jenny grover wrote: > > > > > > Okay, last night I suffered through "The In Crowd" on WGN (actually, I > > > taped it so I wouldn't miss the Indians game).
