I've been laid up this week after a bike accident so I've been listening on and off most of the week. Laying cards on the table, I'm more of a Young than a BS fan. I've owned BSA on vinyl for ages and the original issue of BS on CD for a few years but it is nice to have them in sparkly reissue sound, which is wonderful. I do think that the bonus disc 4 is pretty superfluous though (first album mono, second stereo) and as Mojo mentioned there are some omissions such as the long version of Bluebird and the Monterey Pop live stuff which would have introduced another angle especially as the funny smelling book (it's the ink that pongs I think) devotes a few pages to listing their gigs. Bradley mentioned that it is disorganised - as far as I can tell it's chronological which seems much the best way to organise these things. But it does mean that there are intrusions into the original running order of the albums if that bothers you. Still the "bonus" CD is great if you just want to listen to the albums without these distractions. Anyway, to these perhaps less discerning ears I've been pretty happy with it. The acoustic demos are welcome, especially the Young tracks - a hint of what's to come when Neil finally gets around to putting out the much vaunted six billion CD set - and Steve Stills stuff is pretty fine. I've not gotten around to reading the booklet yet which is as Bradley says mainly composed of press cuttings (and they are hard to read due to the scrapbook style of design. However there's a fan article by Mike Viola (which is even harder to read because of the over inked background and tiny type) and also KHJ and KBLA chart lists from 66 - makes you weep to look at these and the see the quality of the music in the charts at this time! Bradley: > I sometimes think I'm the only rock fan who still likes new music. Could be :-) Oh while I'm here, and apologies in advance if I've missed this discussion previously, where do I file Alison's "My World View"? F or L? Is Faith a middle name or is it a surname? Lovely record, BTW. Thanks, Alison! So Joe, Sue - when can we expect the GT/LF box set? :-) Ian np Disc 4, then 1 - BS Box Set ------------------------------ End of loud-fans-digest V1 #175 *******************************
