He didn't, but he could've, especially since the True Love Coffeehouse is actually on the corner of 24th and J, which according to the pre-Antonathon show write-up in the local Sacramento paper (which is online at http://www.sacbee.com/lifestyle/news/lifestyle14_20010622.html and mentions Scott by the way), is in the "midtown" district. Who knew?? And in case anyone is curious which songs Scott did play on Saturday, he played five Anton Barbeau songs ("Land of Economy", "Third Eye", "The Battle of Anna K.", "Back to Balmain", "Little Daisy"), "Back of a Car" by Big Star (a song mentioned in "Little Daisy"), and "Just Gone". I thought he chose interesting Anton songs to cover, three super early ones off the first Antology cd and two later ones that he helped produce, and everyone was quiet and receptive while he was playing. His 30-minute set was definitely worth the drive. ontologically on-topic, Steve ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 25 Jun 2001 19:20:57 -0500 (CDT) From: Jeffrey with 2 Fs Jeffrey Subject: [loud-fans] missed golden opportunity - free to a good home So I'm listening to the radio, and some band is doing a punk rawk cover of "I Can See Clearly Now" (Johnny Nash?) - and I'm realizing that the first few notes of the melody are exactly the same as those of Husker Du's "Celebrated Summer." And then I realize the band in question has even changed the second chord of "ICSCN"'s verse so it's the same as the second chord of "CS" - and I just can't figure out why they didn't go all the way and sing the words to ICSCN to the melody and chords of CS. It's not a perfect fit - Mould's phrasing is a bit odd on that track - but with a bit of jiggering (like adding the word "away" to "clouds have gone," say), it works almost perfectly. There - your band's new cover song. - --Jeffrey with 2 Fs Jeffrey J e f f r e y N o r m a n The Architectural Dance Society www.uwm.edu/~jenor/ADS.html ::As long as I don't sleep, he decided, I won't shave. ::That must mean...as soon as I fall asleep, I'll start shaving! __Thomas Pynchon, VINELAND__ np: Belle da Gama _Garden Abstract_ u-rah-rah! ------------------------------ End of loud-fans-digest V1 #141 *******************************
