He actually said that "pop culture's creators and marketers" are "disproportionately members of a minority religion." Creating and marketing sounds like control to me. I guess only President Bartlett could possibly clear up this kind of complicated dispute. However, I'll certainly apologize if Zwirn was referring to Muslims. ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 24 May 2001 16:06:09 -0400 From: jenny grover Subject: [loud-fans] more WWC stuff I forgot to mention earlier that the entire live WWC set from Hoboken is up at http://www.dcn.com/bands/bands_pages/wellwaterconspiracy.shtml# in really crappy streaming video. Jack Logan is a hale fellow (well-met?) from Widner, Georgia by way of Illinois. He drew the comic book that went with the Coolies' rock opera DOUG, released in 1988, but his own music went unpressed until 1994 with the dawning of BULK, a double-CD set of 42 songs (extracted from Logan's "vault" containing several hundred), and one of the finest albums of that year, demonstrating an easy command of Stones-y rock, chicken-fried country, and several other idioms, in service to a mournful, sometimes scabrous emotional sensibility ("Shrunken Head," "Graves Are Fun To Dig," and "Shit For Brains," and the aching, wistful "Fuck Everything" are a few song titles). I haven't kept up, I'm sorry to say, with his subsequent releases. Anyone care to assess them? Stay tuned for "The Well-Tempered Old Testament," Andy "Father expected a good deal of God. He didn't actually accuse God of inefficiency, but when he prayed his tone was loud and angry, like that of a dissatisfied guest in a carelessly managed hotel." - --Clarence Day, from GOD AND MY FATHER ------------------------------ Date: Thu, 24 May 2001 19:10:28 EDT From: Cardinal007@aol.com Subject: Re: [loud-fans] foot in mouth disease and knee-jerk dickheads.... .... Yeah the video is always crappy, but the sound is really not all that bad for most of the stuff on DCN. This DCN website is a great resource for discovering music. I've found a lot of bands here that I'd been wanting to hear that I would not have heard otherwise, for example the Churchills and Tim Easton, both of which I've now gone out and bought albums by. I suspect the same will happen with the Well Water Conspiracy. Thanks Jen for letting me know they're there. - -Larry _________________________________________________________________ Get your FREE download of MSN Explorer at http://explorer.msn.com ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 25 May 2001 00:34:02 -0500 From: steve Subject: Re: [loud-fans] TV rants against God/ Pernice On Thursday, May 24, 2001, at 01:28 PM, JRT456@aol.com wrote: > Step outside our happy hipster world of Western privilege, and Christians > are > routinely imprisoned and worse for practicing their religious beliefs.
