I actually planned a vacation to DC around that show. I tend to do that in order to see Kris and other artists who I really like. I've planned work trips, vacations, anything I can...around an opportunity to see a great show! I live in Cleveland, and unfortunately, we don't get that many opportunities in our back yard. Ahh, how I long to live in Boston...the land of plenty. This most recent show in Alexandria was great. Jabe was there to accompany Kris. He adds so much to the show. He played piano on "You're No Train." It was neat to hear the piano in there, but I did find myself missing the electric guitar on that song. I absolutely love Kris and Jabe doing "Weathervane" together. I've said this before...that song just really comes to life when they play it live. Kris did play a couple of the new tunes that others have mentioned. It was great to hear those, too. She tended to laugh and treat the room with her big smile when she missed a note, which wasn't often. (Does anyone else miss her fiddling?) I had no idea she was a rising singer-songwriter. Her wings were so little then, though they flapped furiously. I've since enjoyed her unique remakes of folk classics (Cluck Old Hen) and found myself buoyed by her amazing turn of phrase. There are many artists who render their own experiences passionately. We tap our toe to their music and clap politely. We've "so heard it all before." There are much fewer artists whose craft is powerful enough to transcend the merely personal. They become the soundtrack of our lives. Kris clearly belongs in the second group. She played two new songs - one called "Anybody's Heaven" and one that I think was called "Water, Water". It was based on a Robert Herrick poem, and was really great, really loud for Kris. Kris played with Erin McKeown, and they finished the show together, along with Jabe and a drummer on "Honeyed Out." It was a really great rendition. - -----Original Message----- From: owner-little-wings@smoe.org [mailto:owner-little-wings@smoe.org] On Behalf Of jeff hudson Sent: Thursday, April 29, 2004 2:27 PM To: little-wings@smoe.org Subject: little-wings: kris in alexandria I saw Kris a couple of weeks ago at the Birchmere in Alexandria, VA.
