What are some of your >favorite concert moments? Kris or otherwise... I was at the shows at the Paradise and at the Bottom Line in NYC, too. The Paradise Club show was too much fun; besides Kris rocking out with full band, I'll never forget Sean Staples turning the stage into his personal mosh pit during Jabe's set, not something you see at every Locomotive Cow Punk High Velocity Roots performance! I also picked up Five Stories at the Bottom Line and a copy for a friend (who unbeknownst to me had already ordered a copy of the CD by mail for me, so we both ended up with two copies!). It was such an odd collection of performers at that showcase, too.... By my count, I've seen Kris 8 times in 5 different states, and never at the same venue twice, which makes for lots of variety and interesting stories (and much better entertainment than watching a movie in my hotel room as I travel). I last saw her at The Point in Bryn Mawr, just a couple of weeks ago, in a set that ended with a mostly unrehearsed performance of four songs with members of the band from the other act on the bill. Those musicians gamely tackled the songs with their crib notes and turned out pretty amazing and terrifically fun renditions that showed off Kris's songwriting in a completely different light. She tended to laugh and treat the room with her big smile when she missed a note, which wasn't often. (Does anyone else miss her fiddling?) I had no idea she was a rising singer-songwriter. Her wings were so little then, though they flapped furiously. I've since enjoyed her unique remakes of folk classics (Cluck Old Hen) and found myself buoyed by her amazing turn of phrase. There are many artists who render their own experiences passionately. We tap our toe to their music and clap politely. We've "so heard it all before." There are much fewer artists whose craft is powerful enough to transcend the merely personal. They become the soundtrack of our lives. Kris clearly belongs in the second group. ------------------------------ End of little-wings-digest V6 #21 *********************************
