WOAH! So lucky! :D and i love how you've quoted stuff from the setlist! :) "Damn" would be "Damn Love Song" and the Louring Bros is the Louvin Brothers. her & Mark do some killer renditions of their songs. you might remember a tune of theirs done by Lucy Kaplansky on her "Every Single Day" cd. sounds like a killer show yet again! *sigh* ~tim - ----- Original Message ----- From: To: Sent: Wednesday, April 23, 2003 12:24 PM Subject: little-wings: Kris in Santa Cruz > Kris said she'd been waiting to get to Henfling's cuz it's one of her favorite places, and you could tell. She was a little more relaxed and looked more at 'home' than in San Jose...you could tell she wanted to groove. I was a little disappointed that the place wasn't packed...it was full, but there could have been more...maybe next time, when she's touring the new CD. > > So, duh, I forgot a pen again, but this time, I snagged the set list after the show. Even still, there were changes. Let's see if I can decipher her writing and match with my memory...I'll write it the way she did... > 1. B. Lee > 2. Broken W.L. > 3. East of Mts. > 4. Train > 5. Cluck > 6. Juice + June > 7. Hurricane > 8. Moscow/Damn (what's 'damn'?, she did Moscow) > 9. Yellow Brick > 10. G. Rose...she did NOT do this, bummer...her sister Jen was supposed to join her for this one, but instead, this is where the set list starts to change. I can't remember exactly which one she did next, but here's where requests started to filter in...and of course, without a pen, I don't remember the order. > Request: Gave it Away > This was kind of funny, she says "that's probably the only one of my songs I don't know". Mark piped up that he did, it was his favorite..."okay, you sing it" she retorts. She couldn't remember the words, and when she asked, no one had bought and opened Five Stories, so she 'bought' it herself, to read the very fine print ("what was I thinking") to remind herself of the lyrics..."oh yeah...ok...uh huh...right. Okay, we'll jump off this cliff" and of course, proceeded to do just superb. > 11. Red Herring (yea!!!!) > 12. Louring (the Louring Bros?) > 13. Mean Ol' > Request: Hummingbird > "Ah, you must be British". She told the story earlier about having just toured England with Peter Mulvey and Jeffery Foucault and how the Brits must be passive aggressive. They listen politely to the show, wait til the gear is all packed up and they're having a beer at the bar, THEN they ask for a request! > 14. Little W > 15. Honey > Encore: Grave (Ain't No) > A gospel singalong. As she says, she'd have been a lousy camp counselor and song leader, not making everyone sing...but, it sure would sound cool if everyone sang! > > So all in all...it was a great show. Two more in the Bay and up the coast she'll head. Expect to see her around again in the fall...and definitely looking forward to the CD release. It's set for Aug 19, but she said that sharp eyes just might find it a little before that on her website. Sister Jen says she's heard the master and it sounds great...of COURSE she'd say that...she's her SISTER! ;) > > Enjoy...and you N'orWesters will need to keep the reviews going when she heads your way! > > Ciao, > Heather ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 23 Apr 2003 11:00:04 -0700 From: Carey Driscoll Subject: Re: little-wings: Kris in Santa Cruz CampGrrl63@aol.com wrote: > 12. Louring (the Louring Bros?) That was a song written by the Louvin Brothers, Charlie and Ira. When Mark and Kris did that song in San Diego, it only took me a few seconds to hear them as being a perfect duo to do a Tribute The The Everly Brothers project. After the show, I mentioned that to Mark, and his face lit up like a government building in Baghdad. Oooops:-) I was sure that the Everly's had done at least one Louvin Brothers song, but I can't seem to find anything to confirm that in my brief search. On a related topic, however, co-writer (with her late husband Bordleaux) of many Everly Brothers songs, Felice Bryant, died yesterday.
