It was the second time I've seen Kris headline (I've also seen her at Falcon Ridge) and I agree with everything already written EXCEPT to point out that the unanimous encore request of "Words Fail You" came about through the quickest consensus process I've ever seen... a few different songs were tossed out and within seconds there was agreement. Only in Ithaca! That last one is probably Short Work (aka the mincemeat song). She's been playing it for a while, though it doesn't show up on set lists very often. I'm crossing my fingers it'll be on the new album since it's one of my favorites. AM ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 21 Apr 2003 23:25:03 -0400 From: "chrissy wentworth" Subject: Re: little-wings: Kris in Ithaca, NY hello all :) since we are all talking about the Ithaca show, i figured i'd put in my two cents about the show. of course, she was amazing as always. the set list was nearly perfect (although i do enjoy when she ends with "lullaby 101" which she didn't do, but i was okay with that). the only song that i would have added to the set list would be "moscow song." i was really disappointed that she didn't play that because it's probably my all time favorite, but she did play "janet the pig" which i had never heard before and the tom waits cover, so i suppose that makes up for it :) the last time i saw her was over the summer in maine so i knew a few of the new songs already ("humming bird", "you're no train", etc.) but it was great to hear them again since it's been months since i got the chance to listen to them live. i got there later than i had expected so i missed most of karaugh's opening set (but i LOVED what i heard) and ended up being one of the "lucky" few that had to sit on any open floor space that i could find. i ended up sitting directly in back of kris on the floor; i could have reached out and touched her if i wanted to, but decided not to in fear of being labeled the creepy stalker :) i consider myself lucky because out of the five kris shows that i have seen, she's played "sink or swim" at three of them (one time at my own request). it's such a beautiful song, but everytime it is requested she seems reluctant to play it because it's such a downer, in her own words. thanks to the person that posted the setlist for the show, i was so upset that i forgot to grab a pen and couldn't write it down! hope that you all get the chance to see her soon, especially if you are on the west coast! maybe you'll get a strip tease, too! ;) peace love and happiness, chrissy _________________________________________________________________ Help STOP SPAM with the new MSN 8 and get 2 months FREE* http://join.msn.com/?page=features/junkmail ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 21 Apr 2003 21:16:48 -0700 From: Carey Driscoll Subject: Re: little-wings: Kris in Ithaca, NY chrissy wentworth wrote: > ... maybe you'll get a strip tease, too! ;) Damn, if I'd known that was a possibility, I'd have followed her up the coast! ------------------------------ Date: Tue, 22 Apr 2003 03:18:20 EDT From: CampGrrl63@aol.com Subject: little-wings: Kris in San Jose Well, 'nuf of Ithica...let's talk Northern CA! Just got back tonight from Kris' first gig at a great coffee club called the Espresso Gardens. This may have been Kris' first gig there, but she sold it out...I was, like, '-'totally way stoked' for her, ya know? ; ) Invited a friend, ran into another...both first timers to Kris, they're converted! :) One of them was a two thumbs up and bought Oddlot and 5 Stories. The food is great, but the chairs aren't so comfy, so I was very glad to snag a front row only couch seat. Sound isn't as good up front...mostly hearing the monitors...but hey, I already know what she SOUNDS like! :) I'd never heard Mark Erelli. Enjoyed him, but not sold yet enough to plunk the cash down for a cd. We're heading up to Henfling's in Santa Cruz Mtns tomorrow, I'll decide then...and really looking forward to Kris' show. Henfling's is this funky little biker bar, but with KPIG's support, people go to hear the music too! Kris said she's really looking forward to going back, she played there once last year...and since the atmosphere is relaxed and fun, should be a great show. Sorry to set list junkies, but I didn't have anything to write with, so I can't rattle off in order or anything. She opened with a new one that I can't quite remember what it's about, a quiet one. Then she busted into another newer one East of the Mountains, I loved that one...should sound great on the CD all decked out with the band. Hummingbird, another new one I can't remember, and a lot of faves (in no particular order), Moscow Song, Broken White Line, Mean Ol' Wind, Cluck Old Hen, Yellow Brick Road, North Dakota, Weatherman...yeah, a quiet mellower version...can Weatherman GET mellower? ; ) She encored with Gravity and Honeyed Out. Don't remember hearing any Pig song. I know I'm missing a few more, but it was all good. Would have grabbed the set list, but as she said, it kind of flew out the window anyway! They'd just come from Southern California, so she also sang the Southern Cali ditty. Being a SoCal native myself, I too, can laugh and relate! Sounds like Mark & Kris mostly spent time sleeping on the beaches and eating In & Out Burgers in the land of no weather changes...ah yes, I remember it well. Don't think I'll make the other two SF gigs on Wed in the Make Out Room or Thur at Starry Plough, in Berkeley...might try to get to that one, thought...Hot Buttered Rum String Band will be playing too...and it would be totally way cool for them to jam with Kris, I hope she brought her fiddle! So, SF listers are going to have to keep the tour thread going...maybe a bit more coherently than I have tonight. It's Monday...well, Tues past midnight and I just squished my mice & pumpkin trying to catch my coach... so g'night y'all!
