Whether we like them or not, Starbuck's is rated as one of the top companies to work for and has a lot of programs -- like the CD collections -- that are not only good business but good for the community. Our nation would be a lot better if more companies would take this same approach. Congratulations to Kris for getting noticed and expanding her audience! I work at Starbucks, and Kris Delmhorst is definitely included on Starbucks' CD's. Just yesterday I helped out at the store in Hingham, MA and heard both Mean Old Wind and Little Wings during my shift. I assure you that it was not an employee listening to his own music. That actually isn't possible, since Starbucks' CD players use a special format and don't play regular audio CD's. Thought you might like to know. I think it's wonderful that Kris is getting played at the 'Bucks! I for one love Starbucks--corporate monster that it is. (OK, I am kinda partial here being from Seattle and all...) Perhaps Kris has a song or two with one of the muzak type entities? That would explain the airplay without "being on one of the compilations." Those compilations are through "hear music" mostly (I believe), which is a different thing than the muzak entities (there are 3 main companies--muzak, DMX here in Seattle and one other who's name I forget...) So everyone here is right! and wrong! and who cares if our favorites are having their art disseminated to the masses who are starving for something better than the average corporate radio format crap? I work at Starbucks, and Kris >Delmhorst is definitely included on Starbucks' CD's. I think Starbucks plays music in stores that doesn't come from their retail compilation CDs. If you go to their site, you'll see their "playlists" -- monthly lists of the songs that they've programmed for in-store use, probably distributed on proprietary CDs and licensed via BMI/ASCAP. The most recent playlist on their site is from May-June: http://www.starbucks.com/hearmusic/category.asp?category%5Fname=Starbucks+Playlists If you read the text, you can see that Starbucks expects people to ask baristas what music is playing, which is why they apparently provide the playlists to employees. Of course, I'm just theorizing here, but it makes sense to me :-) Doug ------------------------------ End of little-wings-digest V4 #61 *********************************
