Last time I had Falcon Ridge tickets to sell...now it's Kris & Dar tickets. Anyone in the Portland, OR area interested in buying a pair of Kris/Dar Williams tickets for Tuesday 8/27 at the Alladin Theater? I thought I'd be up in that part of the country on the 27th but it turns out I won't be making it. They're $30/each. Anyone else at the Plymouth, MA outdoor concert last week? The sound system wasn't very good, but Kris was adorable as always and played a lot of the old staples and a Bob Dylan cover. She told the story of Open Road- how she wrote it for a friend, and emotionally performed it the day before she left for California. They never saw the friend again...for 2 weeks, when she turned back around to Boston and hasn't left since. I've only heard her tell it once about 3 years ago so I was psyched. I have had the chance to see Kris once (and only once :-() in person...around here at Club Iota in Arlington, VA...she was amazing!!! I was curious, though...I don't have a CD burner, though I was wondering if Kris allows people to record her shows?? I would LOVE to hear one of her live, since she definitely put a different spin on some of the songs than on her albums! Kris was all over the fest, was probably the busiest artist there for the number of appearances :-) I just happened to wander back over to the Roots Stage after Mark Erelli had performed (hoping for a Kris duet...but not to be on that day) and there was Kris playing her fiddle with a mix of Boston area performers called Pastures of Plenty.....it is always great to hear her play the fiddle, something very rare because I almost always just see her solo :-) She led the group in a rousing "Ain't No Grave" which I've heard several times but it is so awsome with a big backing band!! I met a fellow little wings listee....Hi Jean.... who was so helpful in giving me festival tips to make things go smoothly for a first timer! She was the first to clue me in that the old Vinal Avenue String Band CD was available there. I have been listening to it non-stop since getting home, just some great bluegrass music!!! If it happens to become available again you must get a copy of it......... Sat night would have ended on a definite low point IF Bob Dylan was the last singer I heard (??? I use the word "singer" quite loosely here), but luckily as we were heading off the festival grounds some of the Pastures of Plenty artists were playing an inpromptu unplugged set so we finished the evening listening to Kris fiddle again and they did Mean Old Wind too!! Sunday was Kris's busy day....started off singing a duet with Mark Erelli,Compass and Companion, on the Fort Stage (main stage of the fest). Next was a song circle at the Borders Stage where Kris did a couple songs and then she had to literally run to the Roots Stage for another round robin. Deb Talan joined Kris on Broken White Line and Kris joined in on one of Deb's songs too! And finally Maybe Baby, Jennifer Kimball & Ry Cavanaugh's group, did a set with Kris joining in on 3 songs (including one that is on the Vinal Ave CD!!!). The festival was a great experience, even though not near enough Kris songs :-) and no newer ones.....guess I'll just have to wait for another midwest tour this fall! But still it was such a wonderful time and an incredibly fun way to see a wide variety of artists and meet some really great music lovers too!!!
