Josh Ritter I have a bunch of these people on my web site and links to them: http://www.blackfoot.net/~jess913/music.html Jess ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 20 Mar 2002 13:27:25 -0500 (EST) From: cet9@cornell.edu Subject: little-wings: people you have never heard of but you should know yeah, this thread is a good one to pull out the lurkers... i just went to a show last night with several wonderful folks playing, all local talents that i really think have the stuff to make it big. so if you're in the baltimore/DC/northern VA area then so yourself a favor and go and see the following folks: ilyAIMY (www.ilyaimy.com)--on the rockin end of folk...a conglomoration of great musicians. rob, the main singer is often compared to ani difranco (but he has longer hair). they have a great chemistry and have a heck of a lot of fun on stage. great lyrics, great voices, amazing musical skills. we're about 9--i didn't actually see the whole band, just their lead singer, brian gundersdorf. picture a folkier version of barenaked ladies (plus a girl when you have the whole band). clever, clever lyrics, awesome guitar and piano playing by brian...his voice even sounds very BNLish. very nice. yes. it was a great night...i dunno if anyone has ever seen a show at jammin java in vienna, VA, but it's a great place to see folk :) carolyn ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 20 Mar 2002 13:32:53 -0500 From: Jan Hanseth Subject: little-wings: people you have never heard of but you should know On Wednesday, March 20, 2002, at 01:27 PM, cet9@cornell.edu wrote: > yeah, this thread is a good one to pull out the lurkers... true enough. *emerges* My two cents: Brian Webb is someone who's been playing a lot of venues in the Boston area, including the subway (accompanied by his dog). He's got a lovely voice and a sweet style, and his lyrics tend to stay with me all day. He's been getting a lot of airplay on the radio lately (WERS Coffeehouse) as well. Definitely check him out if you're in the area. Her newest cd is an acoustic live performance > from a night > at Passim with a bunch of musicians y'all might know... Good grief! I was at that Passim show back in July '99, on the first weekend of my three week, multi-centre, inaugural New England Vacation (comprising Boston, Nantucket, a Maine windjammer cruise, and a drive through New Hampshire and Vermont by way of Falcon Ridge Folk Festival)! I was beginning to think the CD would never see the light of day! I've seen Brian Webb at Club Passim and he is surely worthy listening to. Someday i would like to see someone half-good in the subway. Mary Lou Lord apparently frequents the T too. Whenever I take the T the peformers i see are definitely not noteworthy. I think the T needs a schedule of perfomers. The can post it on the MBTA website :-) No? much love, Cher ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 20 Mar 2002 17:07:15 EST From: K3285@aol.com Subject: Re: little-wings: people you have never heard of but you should know In a message dated 3/20/02 11:14:28 AM Pacific Standard Time, TkleMeCher@aol.com writes: > Mary Lou Lord apparently frequents the > T too. Mary Lou usually plays on the red line at the Park Street station. Although last week she was in TX for SXSW. She recently released a live cd that was recorded while she was busking in the subway and in Harvard Square.
