Iowa City house concert was excellent, with Kris doing lots of new songs (to me anyway), and finally getting the fiddle out for one of Mark's songs!! It was my first house concert with Kris, so really enjoyed the more relaxed vibs :-) garden rose yellowbrick road cluck old hen east of the mountains (with great foot stomping "drum" solo by Mark!!) hummingbird broken white line the first one to love you (Louvin Brothers cover, just worked out in driveway at the house) juice and june open road wasted word (octave mandolin) love's a word I never throw around (Robert Earl Keen w/octave mandolin by Mark) mean old wind words fail you little wings ain't no grave gonna hold my body down One day's rest for Kris and Mark and then on to Indianapolis. This was the BEST show hands down. A great house concert and great crowd and great setlists. Mark opened up with his longest set, 12 songs.......finally have one of his setlists down (just for you Tim!). Mark's set blue eyed boston boy take my ashes to the river why should I cry call you home I always return dear magnolia w/Kris the drinking gourd w/Kris & fiddle! every goodbye w/Kris what's changed w/Kris & fiddle compass and companion w/Kris the only way northern star w/fiddle Kris's set yellowbrick road broken white line cluck old hen train song (not quite as great without electric guitar, but just love it still!!) sleeping dogs marylou the first one to love you (Louvin Brothers) wasted word (octave mandolin) hummingbird mean old wind little wings honeyed out weatherman ain't no grave.... encore: north dakota red herring (wink of a guppy story again!) and Mark on harmonica.....perfect :-) Just can't go on enough how cool this show was. Lots of newcomers to Kris's music, but everyone was dazzled by both of them. Kris and Mark have incredible chemistry together, what a combo :-) Not to mention all the extra songs with them helping out on each other's sets. And finally Louisville......what a big disappointment......oh, not by Mark or Kris but with the crowd. Or should I say total lack of it. If there were 15 people there, I'd be overexagerating the turnout. I didn't get Mark's setlist done yet, but Kris played the fiddle again and sang along on several songs :-) Kris did a short set, with no different songs, but did get to hear a story I'd never heard before. It was worth the drive down just to hear the train song again :-) Did I say I like that song yet?? bobby lee yellowbrick road cluck old hen train song broken white line mean old wind the first one to love you (Louvin Brothers) weatherman little wings honeyed out ain't no grave.... encore: lullaby 101 (pretty cool of Kris to do an encore with so few people) A pretty wild road trip, 2100 miles, 5 states, 6 shows, 7 days!! Probably will be a long time before I do anything like that again but well worth it! Sharon ------------------------------ End of little-wings-digest V4 #28 *********************************
