But I just have to say that last nights show was unbelievable! Mark and Kris complement each other's music so perfectly, it's almost as if they wrote them together. From Duets on Mark's "Compass and Companion" to accompaniment on Kris' "Train Song," the night's music was stunning. The gig was at Cafe Montmartre in the heart of Madison, WI. A small coffeeshop/bar with great atmosphere all around. Mark opened the show one of his earlier songs, (I believe) that has to do with being a girl's "Fool number 1." After that he went into some newer stuff from "Take my Ashes to the River," to "Dear Magnolia" his cover of the bluegrass band 'Rust Farm.' He played a couple more songs than he did in Chicago, with about 10 songs total, ending in "The Only Way." After a small break, Kris came up and opened right away with Mark on the backup guitar. From the first words of "Yellow Brick Road" I was entranced again. Last night, she explained that she was losing her voice in the morning and that she thought she wouldn't be able to sing at night, but from what we heard, it was exactly the opposite. Her sonorous voice kept the entire room silent until those minutes between songs when applause would erupt from the crowd. Highlights of the night were when she played songs like "Bobby Lee," "Train Song," "Moscow Song," and her finale of "Weatherman" and "Lullaby 101." As I stated before, I will post the entire set list later this afternoon, but I just had to go and tell you all what a fantastic show it was last night! Have a great week! But I just have to say > that last nights show was unbelievable! > Hi all, Yeah, the show last night was super! Kris was like a rock star......all sorts of screaming and whistling going on. Most rowdy group I've seen at a Kris gig :-) Dave is much better at Mark's setlists, so I'll just post Kris's now and let him add Mark's later. Yellowbrick road Bobby lee Cluck old hen The train - this song just continues to get better everytime I hear it -the club owner? said it best "Jesus Christ"!!! as Kris finished it....I think he was muchly impressed too :-) Broken white line Red herring (super with Mark playing the harmonica-totally different sound than solo) Moscow song Marylou Words fail you Mean old wind Little wings Honeyed out encore: Weatherman Lullaby 101 All in all a fabulous show, just hope Kris's voice holds up OK, by the end of the show it was hard for her to hit some notes. Now back to the night before in Bloomington. A lot bigger crowd, but a huge difference in atmosphere. Lots of people who had probably never heard Kris, so pretty quiet throughout the night. But we did get a couple stories, her Chicken and Open Road ones!!! One of the highlights was she played the octave mandolin ....yeah, it's so cute :-) on Wasted Word, another stunning new song. I know Five Stories just came out, but with all the new songs it can't be too soon for a new CD!!! Garden rose Yellowbrick road Cluck old hen The train Broken white line Open road Wasted word Marylou Wading under the waves (w/ Deb Talan) Words fail you (w mark and deb) Mean old wind Hummingbird Little wings encore: Careless love Most of the between song banter was about our lovely weather.....the wind was quite impressive on Saturday. Mark opened the show with Kris joining him on two songs, then Deb Talan. Kris joined Deb on one song also....no wonder her voice is giving out! I finally have a show "close" to home, only 90 miles to Iowa City tonight and my first House concert with Kris and Mark!! It's been a fantastic weekend :-) Sharon ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 11 Mar 2002 21:16:34 -0800 From: jean sapula Subject: little-wings: Five Stories review I just received my copy of "Dirty Linen", a great magazine of folk and world music and found a nice review of Kris' latest CD, written by Pieter Hofmann. This is the April/May edition......it may be online, at www.dirtylinen.com One excerpt of the review describes Kris as........."Blessed with a warm and tastefully low-key voice; her songs are graceful pictures that fall into your lap and rest comfortably there."............it is rather humorous, though, that small portion of the quote is featured under a picture of Kris, and the quote has been changed to...." Kris Delmhorst.....warm bears fall into your lap"(?)... that may be almost as profound as "the wink of a guppy"! BTW....sorry I didn't post anything on Kris' Iron Horse show, I was enjoying it was too much to write down a set list....she and Mark do such a great job together......... Does anyone have anything to add about that show?...............................Jean ________________________________________________________________ GET INTERNET ACCESS FROM JUNO! RG, who is quite psyched to be seeing KD in Hightstown, NJ in two short weeks. ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 11 Mar 2002 22:44:42 EST From: Lightbox61@aol.com Subject: little-wings: (no subject) Whew--I have been trying to remember this e-list address for days so I can write this post. Here in Seattle KMTT "the mountain" played "broken white line" on Sunday. I was so thrilled it was a wonder I didn't crash my car! ------------------------------ End of little-wings-digest V4 #26 *********************************
