Mark opened and Kris joined him with backing vocals on 2 songs. It was my first time to see Mark and he was super!! Kris came on and did 3 solo and then Mark joined her for the rest of the show pretty much. All the other times I've seen Kris have been solo shows, so it was great fun to see and hear her with another musician. A great mix of old and new songs: Wading under the waves Damn love song Marylou Broken white line Cluck old hen The train Bobby lee Yellowbrick road Robert Earl Keen cover Mean old wind Open road Hummingbird Little wings Honeyed out Ain't no grave gonna hold my body down Encore: Weatherman Tear my stillhouse down (Gillian Welch) The sound system was a patchwork but Kris and Mark did a good job in getting things set up.....it was a pretty bare bones venue!! Honeyed out and Cluck old hen were really rocking with two guitars and Mark's electric guitar work on the train was so beautiful. I've heard a few other singers add a backup singer and electric guitar with mixed results, but Mark did the best job I've ever heard. Just the right amount of mix, never overpowering or upstaging. On to Bloomington tonight....if the wind doesn't blow us all away!!! Sharon ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 9 Mar 2002 09:32:12 -0800 (PST) From: Dave Subject: little-wings: Kris and Mark Erelli in Chicago 3/8/02 Hello everyone, I had the distinct pleasure of seeing Kris and Mark play last night in a tiny little coffeeshop out in Chicago. This being the first time seeing Kris play live, I was pretty much entranced the whole night. On a scale of 1 to 10, I would have to rate yesterday as an 11... (of course I have nothing to rate it against). I tried to get down the setlist, but missed one song of Marks, and I don't know the name of one of Kris', so bare with me. Mark's set 1. "2 soldiers" or "Blue-eyed Boston Boy" a cappella 2. "Take my ashes to the river" 3. "why should I cry over you" 4. "Dear Magnolia" by Rust Farm 5. here he did a Duet with Kris. it was a cover by the Lonesome Brothers, but I didn't get the name. sorry 6. "Compass and Companion" also Duet with Kris 7. "The Only Way" his song about 9/11 After his set there was a small break in which Mark and Kris mingled through the crowd and such. I stepped outside where Mark ended up to congratulate him on a good set, when we were accosted by this homeless guy named Gilbert. Both me and Mark looked at each other in amazement as this guy explained how he "was quite alleviated..." (I'm pretty sure he meant inebriated) so we gave him some change and Mark created a diversion so we could duck back inside. Kris then took stage: 1. She opened with her newer 'sinking song' (I don't know the name yet, sorry) 2. "Damn Love Song" 3. "Mary Lou" 4. Duet with Mark "Broken White Line" and from here until the encore, Mark stayed on stage playing this and that. 5. "Cluck old Hen" 6. "Train song" before this song Kris said that she never writes this down as 'train song' in her set list. She has another name for it that actually refers to poultry, and she explained that she has never said this to anyone else, and she probably never will.... but because of the 'backyard theatre' feel to the show, she decided she would divulge this little tidbit of info to us. 7. "Bobby Lee" 8. "Yellow Brick Road" 9. "Love's a word I'll never throw around" a cover by Robert Earl Keen (I think that's what she said) 10. "Mean Old Wind" 11. "Open Road" 12. this next one she says she's trying to name "Hummingbird" but it's resisting 13. "Little Wings" on this one she explained that she just a little while ago saw her first 'stretch SUV' and that it just looked awful. she said that if she would have seen it before writing this song, she would have put a verse about a stretch SUV in it. 14. "Honeyed Out" 15. "Ain't no grave" Encore: she asked what we wanted to here and I immediately yelled out "Moscow song" but my suggestion was quickly swallowed up by a multitude of people yelling "Weatherman". I hate democracy. 16. "weatherman" 17. "Tear my Stillhouse down" and to quote Kris "this songs about Death and Booze" Afterwards I got to speak to Kris and Mark a little more openly (being the last people in the whole place) and got Mark's CD and new EP (has "the only way" on it), but almost wasn't able to get "Oddlot" because of giving Gilbert the Homeless guy one too many dollars. But I had change and a nice gentleman who loaned me a quarter to make up the difference. All in all, a fantastic show! I am leaving tonight for Madison so I can catch tomorrow's show up there! bye for now Dave LT. ===== *********************************************************** Support your local and independant musicians!
