Kris was running a wee bit late getting there due to what seemed to be a hellish trek to get her there, along with the guitar, and the CD's (an extensive travel saga)...so she jumped right in...being somewhat scattered and unplanned. But she opened with a perfect song...for me anyway...probably my fave from Five Stories...here's the set list: 1. Yellow Brick Road 2. Bobby Lee 3. Moscow Song 4. a silly little ditty about SoCal inspired by driving hwy 101 (for those of us originally from SoCal...quite humorous) my favorite line "... fully way stoked" 5. Cluck Old Hen 6. Trouble Don't Go...a Julie & Buddy Miller song 7. Broken White Line 8. Garden Rose...and she pulled up her sister Jen to sing harmony...you can tell singing's in the genes. 9. Mean Old Wind BREAK - Kris secludes herself to do some yoga, pulls herself together, and saves her voice for the second set...she's been "busy" vacationing in Greece and her voice hasn't sung every night like this for a while...too much wine and olives ;) 10. Open Road 11. New song..."Firefly"? No title yet...one of those "admiration from afar" type songs. 12. The bouzouki/octive mandolin makes it's debut on another new one..."Wasted Word"? 13. Red Herring...hysterical little story about a "revelation" she's had about what the lyrics really say. seems that separate, unrelated people from opposite coasts both thought the line "...like a weak cup of coffee" was "like a wink from a guppie"...Kris' question..."do fish have eyelids?...if so, why? isn't blinking supposed to keep them moist? and they're fish, right?...like, in the water...so what's the point? Maybe you just have to hear the story.... ;) 14. Mary Lou 15. Words Fail You...Jen reappears for harmony 16. Little Wings 17. Honey'd Out 18. Weatherman...my request from the audience 19. Lullaby 101 ENCORE 20. Ain't no grave gonna hold my body down...the first song she sang after 9-11 that helped bring the healing and comfort of art and music I love house concerts...the intimacy and relaxed type of atmosphere. In fact, so intimate that Kris sang with her eyes closed during every song. She confesses that she's singing that way because she can see us...we're close and too interesting...and we'd be a distraction...so eyes closed it is. Interesting to watch her face and it's different expressions during the song...like she's got her own little movie going on in there! Tomorrow in SF should be quite a different show with a much higher energy level. She'll be joined by Hot Butter Rum String Bang...should be a blast! So...stay tuned!
