It's funny you used Another Mystery as the subject, I just got home a few hours ago from a Dar Williams concert with that song in it!! Very fitting......it was an awesome show too, with Catie Curtis and Patty Larkin opening. The words are not in the lyrics like Appetite. Is it that she's telling five stories? Or that the horses that dive on the cover are diving from five stories high? Or did she record it in a studio on the fifth floor of a building? Or that she thought it sounded really cool and stuff? Those are my perhapses. If anybody has any thoughts that would be great. Have fun, Magdalena

I still need to post about the two shows I saw in the Ithaca area last month, but Kris did explain the title during her show in Geneva, NY. It's "five stories" as in the fifth floor of a building. If I remember correctly, she said she grew up on a fifth floor, the album was recorded on a fifth floor, and lots of other things of note have happened on fifth floors. Hope I got that right, and that it clears things up a little. I was quite curious about the title myself and was glad to hear her explanation. She said that she use to live on the 5th story of a building when growing up in Brooklyn, and the CD was recorded on the 5th story of a building in Inman Sq in Somerville (what a good guess Magdalena). She said that it seemed to be significant in her life. She also mentioned that she noticed a reoccurring theme in the album related to the title, but I can't remember exactly how she phrased it and don't want to misquote. Did any Bostonians happen to catch Kris' interview on WERS on Thursday? She hadn't advertised it, as far as I had seen. I missed the beginning of the interview but was really disappointed in the questions they asked (which were few and insubstantial). I was so excited to see Kris' name on the marquee on the Somerville Theater! Can't wait for that show next week. - -Courtney :) - ---- "flying ponywings" wrote: > Does anyone know why the album is called five stories? The words are > not in > the lyrics like Appetite.
