From: owner-little-wings-digest@smoe.org (little-wings-digest) To: little-wings-digest@smoe.org Subject: little-wings-digest V3 #55 Reply-To: little-wings@smoe.org Sender: owner-little-wings-digest@smoe.org Errors-To: owner-little-wings-digest@smoe.org Precedence: bulk little-wings-digest Monday, September 24 2001 Volume 03 : Number 055 Today's Subjects: ----------------- ithaca last night [Carolyn Elizabeth Turett ] Re: ithaca last night ["the folk boy" ] Re: ithaca last night ["Sharon Pieczynski" ] ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Date: Sun, 23 Sep 2001 13:57:49 -0400 From: Carolyn Elizabeth Turett Subject: ithaca last night hey everyone, there's really nothing like a kris concert to make you temporarily forget that your life is brimming over with stress. last night she played in ithaca and it was really this odd sort of emotional experience for me, which i'm quite sure that i can't fully articulate right now. but it was an awesome show, and just what i needed. i didn't copy down the setlist or anything, but i can surely ramble off some of the songs played.... yellow brick road, weatherman, open road, cluck old hen, broken white line, somewhere trouble don't go, little wings, north dakota, red herring, words fail you (her first encore), mean old wind (the second encore, because she said she couldn't end on a "words fail you" note), garden rose, honeyed out, lullaby 101 (the closer to the main set), moscow song, a robert earl keen song that i'm not sure of the name of but it included the refrain of "love is a word i don't throw around", marylou, a song that is not on any of the albums that she said only might be done but she's not sure....as far as i know it had no title, but i think someone asked her after the show and she said that it could just be called "the train song" or something like that...... i'm sure there were a few more, but memory fails me. the new song was absolutely beautiful and i wish i could say something more about it, but i'm feeling inarticulate. little bits of the show included a dog downstairs in the coffeeplace where we were, and the dog was intermittently barking along with the songs. kris thought that this was appropriate for songs like "honeyed out" but didn't actually seem to mind during the other songs, either. she asked us a few times if we had "butt fatigue" from sitting for so long and commented that she's not good at sitting for a long time so it's good that she's the one up front and not one of the people sitting. very cute. let's see...katie sawicki opened for kris, and katie is a cornell student and wonderful, in my opinion :) i was happy to see her again...she's gonna be a superstar one day, i'm sure. ok so perhaps when i feel like i'm able to put together sentences i'll write something more, but i just wanted to share the happiness of seeing kris again...i work in one of the residence halls on campus and we want to try to bring her to campus sometime this year...so i need to figure out who to contact about that. i bet i can figure it out... hope everyone is hanging in there... :) carolyn ~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~ "She was a part of that involuntary, palpitating life, and could neither look out on it from her luxurious shelter as a mere spectator, nor hide her eyes in selfish complaining." --George Eliot, from *Middlemarch* ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 23 Sep 2001 13:27:08 -0500 From: "the folk boy" Subject: Re: ithaca last night Aw! i am so glad she's playing that Julie Miller song again! i love her version of it. I'm rather jealous no one boots her shows though except like 2 or 3 people cos i REALLY would have loved to hear the other cover tonight as well as a new song!!! That seems like how Kris is. She's SO incredibly nice. I get giddy whenever I listen to her live. :) I'm SO anxious for her to come to Chicago!!! :) heh heh. Anyway, thanks again for the review.
