There is SOO much free stuff there, plus, you get to smuggle all sorts of wonderful goodies inside the venue if you have lots of nooks and crannies in your bag. The only downside is that if you go with people who DON'T have backpacks w/ them, you end up being a packmule for their stuff, too. 8-) "last year I did and it came in handy once in a while :)" - I put an extra duffle bag (empty, of course), on the bottom of my bag, just in case I needed the extra storage room later on in the evening. The security people will do a cursory check of the stuff you have at the TOP of the bag, or the things that are readily visible to them (not that I'm giving you subtle hints on what you could or couldn't do with that info . . . ), but when there are 10-70 other people behind you, they can't be too thorough, y'know? 8-) Bring water! (2-3 small UNOPENED bottles, plus some Gatorade/All Sport to replenish your electrolytes). Hope that helps. I'll be posting a few more hints and suggestions a little later, to make your Lilith experience more enjoyable. 8-) Rocky - ------- To unsub, mail majordomo@smoe.org with: unsubscribe lilith-fair-fans - -or-- unsubscribe lilith-fair-fans-digest Hey, AOL chuckleheads--stop mailing unsub messages to the list. "duh, you say. i lost mine yesterday to the security fartbags.. :(" - They take away umbrellas but allow cam-corders? What kind of logic is that? Oh, wait. I guess the umbrellas get in the way of the cam-corders. Makes perfect sense to me. Shoulda brought your cam-corder, Iris. But seriously, there were a few people who had umbrellas at Austin, and the people behind them couldn't see around them. If you need protection from the rain, bring a baseball cap or a rain hat or something similar. (sorry for the cross-post) Here are a few things that I thought I'd share with y'all, after my wonderful experiences in Austin & Dallas. These are things to bring. 1. Backpack - Lotsa goodies are given away from the different booths. Tower Records gives out free bags, but it's better to bring your own. It helps if it's waterproof, cuz ya never know. BTW, Austin had an absolutely GORGEOUS rainbow appear during Shawn Colvin's set. It was simply breathtaking. 2. Binoculars - Wal-Mart has some small ones for $15-20 that work pretty well. 3. Bottled Water - Here's a quick price comparison: one (1) 12-pack of 6.9-oz bottled water at Wal-Mart = one 6.9-oz bottle of water at Lilith = $2.50. Do the math. Bring your own. 4. Sharpies - Artists are MORE than willing to sign autographs, but it helps if you bring your own stuff to write with / on. 5. Earplugs - Luscious Jackson and Sheryl Crow ROCK (as did Trish Murphy) but when you're sitting really close to the speakers, you should expect a ruptured eardrum or two. A nice gentleman sitting behind me in Dallas gave me a pair of earplugs he bought at Target, and they filtered out some of the noise. It's better to have it and not need it than to need it and not have it. I have a friend who follows that with, "Like KY jelly." (OK, 'nuff said). 6. Baseball cap / poncho / garbage bag / suncreen - Protection from the elements (sun, rain, freak sandstorms). I had most of these things with me (except the earplugs and KY), and I had a GREAT time at Lilith. I got a few autographs and took a few pictures. So, if you haven't gone to Lilith yet, these are a few things you may consider bringing. 8-) Rocky - ------- To unsub, mail majordomo@smoe.org with: unsubscribe lilith-fair-fans - -or-- unsubscribe lilith-fair-fans-digest Hey, AOL chuckleheads--stop mailing unsub messages to the list. I went to 2 Lilith venues over the past couple of days and from what I saw, security was pretty lax about searching bookbags. They ask you to open up your bag, but they won't look too hard. If they peek inside and see a bunch of other stuff, like clothes, water bottles, and binoculars, they'll just waive you inside. Plus, if you hide it in the bottom of your bag, under a couple of T-shirts (or maybe rolled up inside a t-shirt), you should be OK. I haven't seen them pat anybody down for carrying cameras on them. You could probably put on in your back pocket, and wear a large shirt to cover them, or wear baggy / cargo pants. When Sheryl and Sarah took the stage, the whole place lit up with flashbulbs, so it's pretty obvious that security doesn't really care to much (well, at least at the 2 that I went to). The only two things that they were enforcing were: 1) No standing on chairs to take pictures, and 2) No cameras with telephoto lenses. I've seen them "bust" people for both of these, although the "chair-stander" was just given a stern warning, while the telephoto person actually had to give up her film to security. I hope that helps. If anybody else has any other experiences to share, please feel free to do so. 8-) Rocky - ------- To unsub, mail majordomo@smoe.org with: unsubscribe lilith-fair-fans - -or-- unsubscribe lilith-fair-fans-digest Hey, AOL chuckleheads--stop mailing unsub messages to the list.
