Becoz it was just a one-off, to see if it went down well. So it was done in the Royal Albert Hall, London. For anybody that doesn't know, this is a massive round builiding, usaully used for classical concerts. In other words, it's a real posh joint! ;-) Ok, Lisa Loeb was first. Thing is, everybody was talking when she came out, so nobody actually noticed she was up on stage waiting to start!! But she was awesome!! It was just her and her guitar, and about 3 other people on violins and cellos. Real nice. She then asked Sarah McLachlan out to do a song, and they were really cool together. Just something i should add here, the sad and uneducated in UK have never heard of Lilith Fair (they'll soon learn). So about 99% there were Sarah McL's cult following in the UK, so every time she appeared the whole place erupted. Anyway, Lisa was really good, one of my favourites. Then the woman from the Brand New Heavies came on- N'Dea Davenport. In my opinion, she sucked. But that's cuz i'm not a huge fan of that type of music. So whilst she was hurling herself around the stage, me and my sis went for a walkabout in our socks! Yeah, where we sat, there was a few empty seats, so we just spread ourselves out and got rather comfy, so we took our shoes off. Oh i forgot, our seats were REALLY close to the stage. Just to give you an example, every time the N'dea person came over our side, we could *smell* her! Anyway, we wandered off to find where to get merchandise, and found it was in the front entrance. They had a Lilith t-shirt and some others. I just have to say that the bloke serving was a real moody lil' bugger! Any-ho, when we came back, N'Dea was still there. She had the whole crowd up and on there feet dancing (or trying to dance). After her came Beth Orton, and she was REAL good. I'm a huge fan anyway, and for any USA peeps that don't know her- BETH ORTON IS A BRITISH SINGER- BUY HER ALBUM NOW!!!! It was her and some other guy on geetars. She was also really funny, and joked about nicking the RAH towels, and then she went over time, but said: "Hey, we've got the towels now -we're on a roll!" Her music is kind of folkey pop, Jewel and Dar Williams fans should give her a try. After the almighty Beth Orton came the even mightier Sarah McLachlan. She was really funny without wanting to be ; her first song was Adia. She did it solo on the piano, and she sang the first line and then hit *THE* most AWFUL note you have EVER heard! It was so damn funny, and she was so surprised that she did it, she stopped and said "Where the hell am i?" Coz she'd lost where she was in the song, and couldn't remember where to go next!!! So she really quickly had to whizz through the song again to remember the next bit, whilst the entire hall pissed themselves laughing and all cheered her on! She must have got *the* easiest heckling ever, with her mass of adoring fans shouting "WE LOOOOVE YOU SARAH!!!" To her credit, she went on to be *extremely* good, and Sinead O'Conner came out and did a song with her. Her band came out and did all the favourites (BAM, Ice Cream etc). Sarah was one of the best of the night, especially her voice. She got a standing ovation at the end, and she looked so overwhelmed and happy. Then came Alison Moyet. She was ok, nothing special, she seemed to have a lot of fans there. Went for another walkabout. Don't remember much. THEN came Sinead O'Conner. In my opinion, she was SO damn good. But THE THE THE *THE* best song of the whole night, was when Sarah came out during her set and did Last Day of Our Acquaintance with her. It was SO SO good, i can't say SO enough times, and use CAPS enough times!!!! The crowd went mental! Sinead also did a heart rendering version on Nothing Compares 2 U. And then they all came out together and did Redemption Song, and all leaped about the stage hugging and jumping around. But all in all, it was BLOODY good, and i *really* hope it comes back next year. Happy now Sharley? ;-) - -Erica - ------- To unsub, mail majordomo@smoe.org with: unsubscribe lilith-fair-fans - -or-- unsubscribe lilith-fair-fans-digest ------------------------------ End of lilith-fair-fans-digest V1 #86 *************************************
