Hi All, The phone number is 0171 589 8212. Tix are £26 each! - -Erica << Ladies Of Lilith Leave For London Prestigious Royal Albert Hall welcomes Sarah McLachlan and company on first overseas jaunt. The women of Lilith are packing for London on the first-ever European date of the wildly successful, all-female summer tour, and only the second traveling festival to take its music across the Atlantic. On Sept. 23, tour co-founder Sarah McLachlan will be joined by Ireland's Sinéad O'Connor, former Yaz leader Alison Moyet, lo-fi rocker Beth Orton, former Brand New Heavies diva N'Dea Davenport and pop singer Lisa Loeb for a performance at the Royal Albert Hall in London, according to McLachlan's manager. "Europe isn't like the U.S., in that they don't have the same series of amphitheaters as we do," said Terry McBride, McLachlan's manager and one of the co-founders of Lilith. "But we're going to do this one-off [date] and see how everyone reacts to it. And if they react well, maybe next year we'll try to do two weeks in Europe." Ozzy Osbourne's metal-edged Ozzfest made the jump last summer to Europe. The skate- and punk-oriented Warped tour took its act on the road to the Far East and Australia last summer, and will visit Europe this fall. Whether or not the tour goes overseas, McBride said that next year's Lilith will not take on as ambitious a schedule as did this second annual, 12-week tour. McBride said the 1999 Lilith, whose roster is being considered, will be pared down to its original seven-week schedule. "Touring the U.S. for 12 weeks was a very long tour and, even though we would have liked to, because we were on the road for so long in the U.S., it took us out of the European festival season," McBride said. The London date will be more like a traditional theater show, with none of the side stages or midway attractions of the U.S. dates, due to the single-stage setup of the venue. McBride did predict, however, that the gig at the prestigious venue will be like "seeing six of your favorite artists with a more warm and cozy feeling than you get from other Lilith dates." Among the artists who have played at the hall are guitar greats Eric Clapton and Jimi Hendrix, as well as piano songstress Tori Amos. Building on the unexpected success of last summer's inaugural outing, this year's Lilith -- which featured appearances from O'Connor, Liz Phair, Bonnie Raitt, Lauryn Hill of the Fugees, Paula Cole, Mono, Lucinda Williams and Erykah Badu, among dozens of others -- was another smash affair. The 1997 Lilith tour was one of the most popular summer festivals of the year, proving, among other things, that a women-heavy lineup could command large audiences night after night. The tour played to more than 600,000 fans and, according to McLachlan, raised more than $700,000 for various causes and charities. Lilith Fair: A Celebration of Women in Music, a double-CD set of performances from last year's tour, was released on April 28. Based on incomplete numbers from tour-industry trade magazine Amusement Business, the tour grossed nearly $19 million last year. This year's tour began in Portland, Ore., on June 19 and closed the U.S. leg on Aug. 26 in Boise, Idaho. The final North American tour date is Aug. 31, in Vancouver, B.C. A representative at McLachlan's publicity firm, Shore Fire Media, said the second phase of the tour has thus far sold more than 900,000 tickets to date and raised nearly $1.5 million for various charities and nonprofit organizations. If the London show goes well, organizers might be smart to expand upon the overseas schedule next year, said Ray Waddell, live entertainment and touring editor at the Amusement Business trade journal. "I don't see why the concept wouldn't work," Waddell said. "Europeans are as festival-oriented as anyone. There's a longer history of rock festivals than in the U.S., maybe not in the tradition of traveling festivals, but at least the concept of multi-act concerts with ancillary attractions is there." McBride said next year's U.S. Lilith tour will open on July 5 at an undisclosed venue and will be preceded by a live album from McLachlan as well as another Lilith Fair compilation next spring. - -- Gil Kaufman. >> ~*~ - ------- To unsub, mail majordomo@smoe.org with: unsubscribe lilith-fair-fans - -or-- unsubscribe lilith-fair-fans-digest ------------------------------ Date: Sat, 29 Aug 1998 09:43:55 EDT From: ErinQ0874@aol.com Subject: Re: [lilith-fair-fans] Sarah McLachlan bootlegs.
