All of us had reserved seats that day, so we didn't bother to leave for the venue really early. But for some reason, everyone in my hotel room got up around 8:30. After running back and forth between rooms, getting all our stuff together, we headed downstairs to the lobby. At about 1:00, Gem, Joel, and I headed over to the nearby mall b/c Gem needed film and I wanted to get posterboard to make more signs. Walked straight to the venue from there and met up with all our groupies waiting outside by the box office. Everyone went over to the north entrance, but Gem and I set up on the grass outside and started making posters. MIX 106 was giving out front row seats for the biggest banner (we already had our huge towson banner with us), but we'd have to wait outside until 4:30 at the Mix booth. So, we didn't go for that. Gem and I had 3 yellow posters to work with. First, I remade the poster from Bryant Park: "P+L=:) FUMBLERs". Funny... once again, I didn't leave enough room for the "s" on the end, so we had to make it small. On the back of that I wrote all the places we'd come from: ENGLAND, CA, PA, TX, ME, DE, MD, VA, OH. Under that I wrote: Lilith '98. It looked awesome. Gem made another sign that said FUMBLERS in bright red letters, and used red glowsticks for the "F". She waited till Sarah's set to crack them and tape them on the poster. Around the word "FUMBLERS" we wrote the Liliths fumblers in our group had been to this year: BRYANT PARK, HOLMDEL, JONES BEACH, CAMDEN, and in big letters COLUMBIA. Maybe we should have included all that Edward had been to, but that would have taken too much room. Finally, I made one poster for Rebekah. How could we not? She was a major highlight of the whole experience. This poster said: REBEKAH -- YOU SIN(G) SO WELL! Hee hee. Ok, so at 3 they let us into the venue. I made a point of picking up more free cds and waited near the Levis booth for 45 min just to get the free posters. I got 2, and of course, now I don't have them. So, if anyone staying in Edward's room ended up w/ 2 extra Levis posters... they're mine! Watched Emm Gryner again while waiting for Levis. She rocked again, and Paul even called out a request and she played it. She's so cute! We went over to the 2nd stage for Holly McNarland who kicked ass! She really rocks, and if anyone dares to say that Lilith is just a bunch of acoustic folk music, have them listen to Holly. She really surprised me-- an awesome performer. During Holly's set, I saw AJ and Matt talking to Rebekah near her trailer, so I went over and gave her a bunch of of daiseys I'd gotten from the VW booth, and hugged her again. I LOVE REBEKAH! I noticed we were standing right near Emm, so I smiled and said hi and she said hi to me. After Holly's set we all talked to Emm, got pictures w/her, and asked when she'd be touring. She'll be at the 930 Club in DC Aug 19th, I think, and at the Trocadero in Philly on the 17th. I'm definitely going to see her! She was so sweet! Ok... Rebekah's set. Do I really need to tell you about it at this point? YES! I went up to the very front and held up our sign for her in front of the railing (so as not to hold it high and annoy people behind us). Held it during the first song, "Hey Genius" and she smiled and laughed. Her set was phenomenal again, especially when she got the crowd rocking during her cover of Rolling Stones' "Get Off of My Cloud." And I think I kept my eyes closed all throughout "Little Black Girl"-- such a great, emotional song. Her dad was standing in the crowd. Matt talked to him and said he was really cool. Then, of course, I held the sign up again during "Sin So Well" When she started singing it, she looked at me and I was singing along. After the first 2 lines, she kinda stopped and said to me "Hey- you know the words!" (see my sig). Oh my God! That made my day right then and there. Nina from Nettmedia was there filming, and she caught my sign on video, so you may get to see it on the LF website! Liz Phair was on next and I went down to my seats to watch her for the first time in my 3 days at Lilith. She was awesome! I've never heard anything from her before, even though I'd heard *of* her. I'll let AJ do the Liz review, cause you'll get a lot more from him. He was really into her set. She played "Divorce Song" so he was *really* happy about that. After Liz was Morcheeba-- they rocked yet again! With Holly, Rebekah, and Morcheeba on the 2nd stage, you can really tell how diverse Lilith is becoming. Ummm.... hung out with Hilary on the grass near the 2nd stage during Missy Elliott's set. I liked Missy's performance the past few days, but I just couldn't watch from the 4th row. I heard her anyway from where we were. That's when we spotted Ash and Brian, and got their autographs! Split some fries with Hil because we didn't want to pay $4.25 for this small cup of fries. It was the first thing I'd eaten that day and what time was it? 7:00? We all went back to our kickass seats for the rest of the concert. Indigo Girls were soooo great to watch that close up! They mixed up their setlist again. I got lots of pictures. Natalie came out during one song with a giant Super-Soaker and sprayed those of us in the front and danced around! The IGs brought out a few people for one song (don't remember which) and Rebekah was one of them! So, I held up our sign for her again. She smiled and waved at me! And, get this... Matt had given a blue glowstick to Rebekah's dad to ask her if she'd wear it up on stage. AND SHE DID! She was wearing the glowstick on her artist pass!! Then, Sarah came out for Water is Wide. I loved her outfit! She was wearing red adidas pants and a black tanktop. SHe looked so cool! We held up the peace, love, happiness sign, but she didn't notice. Then "Closer to Fine" with everyone, which rocked! Rebekah and Sarah sang together! Natalie Merchant came on next and she was really loud for some reason. I was nearly deaf by the time her set was over. But she was really good. Right before Jealousy, she said "Imagine you're in a huge pavillion [laughs from the audience] and you're about to hear your favorite song. And it's your favorite song because you're boyfriend just dumped you." Cute. Ok. I was on a mission to get a glowstick to Sarah, so after Natalie I went up to this security guy and explained that I had something to give to Sarah and asked if I could stand in the front row just for one song. He knew nothing, so we started talking to the girls in the front row. They said they wouldn't mind. Turned out nobody was in the 2nd row, so Matt, AJ, and I moved up there for the entirety of Sarah's set. :) The lights dim, Last Dance comes on, and out comes Sarah, busting into Sweet Surrender. She'd changed from her "Water is Wide" outfit into this cool orange/pink one. We went crazy. I can't believe I was in the 2nd row for Sarah! Toward the end of SS Matt held up the Towson banner and I held up the Bryant Park P+L=:) FUMBLERS sign. SARAH SAW US!!!! She looked directly at us at smiled! I think she recognized me from when I met her Friday, or at least she recognized the Towson banner from when I showed it to her then, and recognized me from that. She also registered recognition of the sign I was holding, cause we've dragged it through like 4 states already (ok, it was a new one b/c the first got destroyed, but it was a replica). I was jumping up and down screaming. Then I turned it around to show the side that said where all the fumblers were from, and David Sinclair noticed it, and Sarah smiled at that too! She also noticed Gemma's poster with the glowing "F" from the glowsticks, and Sean Ashby was looking at it and squinting to read what it said. Witness.... waved our glowsticks like crazy. Sarah noticed. I took a ton of pictures. Elsewhere... beautiful! Gorgeous! I was in this completely emotional state of pure happiness then. A guy behind us was really into it, so we gave him a glowstick. But then he started getting really loud and talking during Angel. I wanted to kill him. he didn't ruin the mood of the song, though. It was breathtaking. Remember I said that Saturday night's Angel was the best I'd ever heard? This blew it away. Right before the song she commented "In a different world, we'd all be naked right now". :) Ice Cream... lots of fun! After Ice Cream I switched seats with the girl in front of me so I could stand in the front row. So Sarah started singing Black and White. I was getting nervous. I was holding the FUMBLERS sign from Bryant Park and all of a sudden she made her way over RIGHT IN FRONT OF ME. I slipped the poster onto the stage and tossed a glowstick on it. Sarah bent down, looked at the poster, smiled at me, *picked up the glowstick*, and started moving back to center stage SHAKING THE GLOWSTICK!!!!!!!!!!!! You couldn't see it glowing on stage cause of the lights on her. But, then she hooked it onto her pants! And she wore it throughout the set! At one point it fell off, and she bent back down and picked it up *again* and hooked it on the back of her shirt. Matt, AJ, and I were ready to die then. Moved back to the 2nd row for Building a Mystery and Possession. Then, before the encore, the security guy (who was bored) decided to do something and told us to move back to our 4th row seats. I explained that we hadn't taken anyone's seats-- that the seats were empty. But he was being a jerk, and I wanted to enjoy Sarah, so we just moved back Big deal-- 2 rows. Whatever. Encores... Adia was amazing. For "What's Goin' On" everyone came out on stage and Rebekah got a solo part *and* sang with Sarah! She and Sarah were both wearing glowsticks! Hmm... I wonder if they talked about them backstage. I held up the sign for Rebekah once more and she smiled at me and waved. Then, Sarah noticed the sign and laughed and smiled at me!!!! This was definitely the best performance I'd heard of the encore. As Rebekah left the stage, she waved to me one more time. God, was this an incredible weekend or what? We all gathered together afterwards and went over to Clyde's to eat and talk about the show and about Sarah! I think they may have shown me on the screens-- Hilary's friend Ben said he saw me up there! And some guy who had recognized me from Towson came down to the Pit to talk to me to tell me he remembered me! So they must've shown us on the screens. Wonder if they panned the audience to show the glowsticks, or the sign I put on stage. Sarah didn't take the sign, so I took it back and we'll bring it to the next one! Oh, at Saturday's show, they did show us with our glowsticks on the screens. Got back to the hotel and stayed up very late talking. I spent Monday at AJ's place w/ him and Gemma and had a ton of fun and went to the Cheesecake Factory for lunch, where I had my first real meal all weekend-- my favorite dish in the world: grilled vegetable quesadilla! Took the bus back on Tues morning. I was exhausted! - --THE END -- Ok, so I think that's it. Anyone think I forgot some small detail? I loved hanging out with my old Towson crew and meeting tons of new fumblers!!! It was the greatest weekend of my life.
