Just a quickie note on a few recent Liliths as I just got back from the airport...it's been all wonderful - the music, the atmosphere, the whole experience itself...though they all shared a common theme, each show had its own distinctive signature and ambience, ranging from the surreal dusty carnival atmosphere of Del Mar to the blistering concrete bustle of the Rose Bowl, not to forget the Shoreline as well ...more 'bout that and the performances another time, but thanks to everyone who posted their reviews...didn't get to meet everyone I had wanted to in the rush of things, but bumped into quite a number of fumblers and in-the-wingers... :) One of the cool things about the Liliths is that many of the artists, crew and management are able to wander nonchalantly about, in most cases unrecognised, and able to freely take in and enjoy the performances and check out the village booths...as mentioned before, Tara and Bill, Ash and Brian, Billie Myers, Elizabeth Hummel, K's Choice, etc. Well, sorry if I haven't written that much about the various performances - they were all so good, though I noticed everyone seemed to have turned it up a notch or two at the Rose Bowl compared to Del Mar, partly due to the media attention perhaps? The acoustics in the Rose Bowl wasn't too great though, lots of slap-back echoes at the higher frequencies and feedback problems on the vocals...well, I guess it's a football stadium after all...*heh* Briefly (at the risk of repeating stuff as I'm not yet caught up on my email), Sarah went swimming with Rex at Del Mar, Sarah/Sarah/Amy/Emily harmonised powerfully on the "Water Is Wide"...Shawn was really good despite being very advanced in her pregnancy...and Sarah did her usual crowd-pleasing top hits Sweet Surrender -> Adia setlist (ending with the Marvin Gaye singsong (the other setlist which starts off with Adia and substitutes Wait for Elsewhere appears to be reserved for the 2nd show of doubleheaders), the only difference being that "Last Dance" was aptly introduced as the prelude to the first song on both Southern Californian dates (just like on the Surfacing Tour)...and the live version of "Black and White" is so catchy that I think it wouldn't be a bad idea to market this version as the next single after Adia has run its course... :) Natalie got hit on the mouth by a bouquet of sunflowers at the Rose Bowl, but that didn't stop her dancing around, liberated by her new wireless microphone......Sinead did an energetic set of mostly older songs, and came back to sing with the Indigo Girls...John from the Blues Travellers and Ellen Degeneres contributed on songs...Sarah and Shawn handled the "Water Is Wide" beautifully...Tara/K'S Choice/Billie Myers/ Erykah, etc. came on stage for the other finale sing-alongs... *cheers!* Edward Uh, sorry, no cute or clever signatures to be found here. How about none of them? Actually, as much as I hate to say it, the Spice Girls would be fun to see live, and would add a type of dance/dumb pop spark that hasn't been on Lilith yet. Shania also probably has a pretty entertaining live set, and would diversify the artists more. Leann Rimes wouldn't be as bad as Mariah Carey, would not only would take away from the musical integrity but also the feminist integrity of the event (she's perhaps the poorest role model for young girls anywhere). How about a poll for artists we would most like to see on Lilith, though?
