I'm going to be attending the LF in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, and I was kind of wondering a few things. One, is that I have tickets for the 8th row, left of center. Does anyone know just how FAR from the stage this is? Like, do I need binoculars or a telescope? ;) Also, my tickets are for actual seats, and not lawn, (YES!) and I was wondering, is there a chance that someone might try to SIT in my seats, other than me? I just need to know if I should plan to be in a fight or not... ;) One last thing...HI SCOTT AND SARA! Hehehe...had to do that. You see, the whole reason I'm so pumped about Lilith is those two kept RAVING about it last year, and they got me into it, too. Sooooo...I swore I'd go this year! And I am! AUGH! I am one fucking happy camper. On June 23, three friends and I got to Shoreline at about 3:00 after battling an endless fight to get into the friggin parking lot. Traffic was atrociously mad. It was a perfect weather day-- not too hot, not too cold, great. We arrived as Beth Lisick began and I personally found her spoken word act not too great of an ordeal, I mean, she was unique at least, but sometimes originality just shouldn't be enough. We moved on, checking out the great vendors (We all went broke before main stage began! Ooogobs of cute rings and jewelry, plus awesome Lilith/Sarah stuff), watching the crowds, scoping out our shitty seats. We caught the end of Lhasa who was, um, interesting (not in a condescending way, just I think that describes the act acurately) and found some grass up front to get closer for Billie. I never really cared for Billie prior to Lilith, in fact, I downright loathe "Kiss the Rain", but she was entirely awesome and energetic and I loved every other song but "Kiss the Rain". She really gets into the crowd and does a lot of interaction, pointing @ people, jumping around, et cetera. I noticed she's not into bras and was wearing a cute shirt w/ cargo pants and Nike sneakers both days that coincidentally Sarah was wearing too. I got to the front of the stage pretty easily and when she got near I reached out to her with daisies from the VW booth and she took them from me and smiled and carried on. It was awesome. I left her set early to get a good seat for Tara McLean and was able to get a patch of grass right in front of her. She wore a cute little black outfit with an impressive body out there. She opened with "Jordan" (I love this song) and introed a new song and did a few other songs I couldn't name, but "Evidence" was in there. I got up and tossed daisies at her feet and when she finished the song she looked at me and said "Thanks for the flowers". Her husband's a freaking babe. She is *wonderful* live and I was totally impressed by the strength of her vocals. She's very real and there is nothing distant about her. After that, friends and I took our seats for Me'shell, who was mediocre in my opinion, shouldn't have replaced Sheryl Crow OR Liz Phair (argh!), but put on an entertaining show. I left early to try and get Tara's autograph at the Tower booth and lo and behold, Billie was there too! I said to Billie "Hey, remember me, I gave you the flowers! You were wonderful!" and she said "Yeah! Thanks a lot!" and signed my Lilith CD. I said "I'm coming back to see you tomorrow" and she said "Great! Am I gonna see you in the same spot?" and I said "Absolutely" and she was just very cool and down to earth. My friend and I remembered about my camera so I put my years of high school track to use and sprinted back to the nosebleeds to get it (thank god @ least I wasn't on lawn). LOL, when I get back, of COURSE Billie's gone, but at least Tara is still there. I have this great idea to buy the Lilith backpack and get it signed by as many artists as possible so I buy one and Tara signs it and poses for my pictures. I tell her she was incredible and she was a great inspiration to me and she is really touched me and my friends and I talked to her for like 5 min (a long ass time with a gillion people in line for a simple signing). She makes you want to be her friend! We went back to catch Badu who was awesome and a big winner with the crowd. After Badu, we rushed to get in the food line and SWEETJESUSALMIGHTY-- bring your own food if possible! We waited over an hour for overpriced fries, during which I was extremely anxious and loud and embarrassed the fuck out of my friends (You know how Planned Parenthood has booths at Lilith? There are a lot of interesting things you can do with free unlimited condoms). Next, the Indigo Girls opened with "Shame On You" and it was the most lively performance ever! I was singing, er, shouting so loud and it was so cool because it seemed like every one knew the words ("The only thing that keeps us distant is that I KEEP FUCKING UP!"). Sarah and Joan Biaz came out for "Water is Wide" which was sooo great, Sarah was wonderful (her voice is SO distinctly *there* during the last verses, no matter who is singing that song) and she was wearing the cutest green suit, her hair a light red. The crowd went TOTALLY wild for Sarah and it gave me a really good feeling. She came out again with Tara McLean and friends for "Closer to Fine" and it was great! Tara seemed to have a prevelant vocal role and she was just way awesome (outdoing Jewel's place in last year's version, IMHO). Sarah fucked up the lyrics a bit and it was the cutest thing. Natalie Merchant opened with a unsweetened version of "Wonder" that turned into something more upbeat and dancable, she was just great. She had incredible chemistry with the crowd and her vocals were strong and impressive through the whole set. She did all my faves, plus more (I'm so glad she did "Break Your Heart"! It was beautiful). She was really active and jumped and danced and ran back and forth a lot, reminding me a LOT of Paula Cole. And I always thought Nat was pretty and okay-looking but she was just utterly beautiful onstage. Everyone loved her. And then, EEEEEEEE, Sarah opened with "Adia" then "Black and White" and "Witness" and "BAM" and "Possession" and "Elsewhere" and "Ice Cream" and a "Sweet Surrender" encore (order may be skewed). She wore a black two piece number that showed off a bit of her WAY toned body (the "Is Sarah gaining" posts on alt.music.s-mclachlan are not only ridiculous but totally bogus) and these silver Nike's that like everyone has, I thought that was adorable. I bust out with my glowstick that deemed me a fumbler and I spotted maybe three or four different groups of fumblers, including some way up front ( would have expected a LOT more, seeing as there were glowsticks *everywhere* at the San Jose show). I was amazed at the response from the crowd, she had many standing ovations and everyone just was in total awe of her. Last year, people had not even heard of her and left mid-set, it was really dissapointing. After the show, everyone was talking about Sarah and how great she was live. It was one of the best days I had and I even didn't mind so much being stuck in the parking lot for over an hour (we did four chinese fire drills and danced with strangers to BAM). I got home at 1:15 and was up till 3:00 packing for the next Lilith the next day (which you can't say I minded so much). I went on wednesday by myself and it was slightly less chaotic as far as plans and I was more at ease because I was totally familiar with everything by then. It was very cool being by myself because I was able to come and go as I pleased and could push my way through crowds without worrying about the chicks with me. It was a similar experience to the day before, but it seemed a whole lot more people had come early that day than before (maybe because the local Lilith station had really stressed it, ugh, they just mess everything up for me like when Sarah did a local in- store appearance they were like "Everyone rush! Hurry!" and I was basically screwed but I love 97.3) because I trouble, um, moving. Even the talent search winner (Noelle Hampton) drew a large crowd and I thought she was pretty good. I caught Autour de Lucie the second time around and they were cool but could be cooler if I knew French. I think my friend and I spotted Terry McBride. I went over to get a spot of front for Billie so I would be in the same place as yesterday, foolishly hoping she'd remember me. I was waiting by the side gate and a look over into the crowd and then there's this blur of Billie that emerges and runs past me and tackles some crew guys nearby. I got my camera out and was pretty obvious with focusing and Billie looked right at me and posed before she went onstage. She was energetic as the day before, even more, and I reached the flowers out to her as she came in front of me and she did that hey pointy thing at me as she took them from me! It was way cute she remembered me. At pauses between verses of songs, I'd scream "Go Billie!" and she'd look over and her band gave approving and encouraging glances so I did it more. She was awesome and posed for two more pictures for me onstage, as well as the real press cameras. I left her set early to catch Tara again and met friends up front. She came out and I said "Tara!" and waved and she looked at me like "Oh, hey!". She and her husband look really cute together. She talked to the crowd a bit more this time around, about songs and her Starbucks show earlier that day. I tossed her a small boquet and she acknowledged by mouthing thank you, she's so cute. She did "Red" that day, too, which was great live. When I went to talk to Billie at Tower later, she remembered me and thought it was cool of me to be in the same spot, posed for more pictures, and signed my Lilith bag. Tara was not doing a autograph sitting that day but I spotted her standing nearby and she was nice again and talked to me and my friend and posed for pictures and signed my bag "Hi again!". I *love* down to earth real people. Some COMPLETE idiots were in line for Billie, though, and were like "Imani's cool" and I'm like who the fuck is that, that's Billie Meyers right there and they're like "No that's not" and I was like "Hello! Yes, it is!" and they were like "Oh" and left the line, plus another guy who asked who Tara was and then proceeded to point to a picture of SARAH MCfreakingLACHLAN and say "Is that her?". Good God, people! I saw more of K's choice that day and they did a good show, people loved them. I went back to my kick ass seat (9th row, dead center) and watched Badu's set and went hunting for my friend and as I was scanning faces, I saw a flash of blue hair. Blue hair, blue hair right in front of my face, I froze and squinted. "Ash!" (as in Ashwin Sood, Sarah's drummer, Mr. McLachlan) He looked a bit alarmed that someone had recognized him and I asked for an autograph. He commented that I had a lot of autographs on the bag and I just giggled (I'm an idiot). I told him it was a great show last night and he said thanks and tonight would be even better. I was like I'll bet and said thank you and commenced my massive corinary. I waddled away and stared at him until he went into the VIP room. I was frozen. (I saved the pen! :D) I sat back down for Indigo Girls and was pretty dissapointed they didn't do "Shame On You" but I cheered up when I spotted Sarah waiting in the wings to come on for "Water is Wide". These chicks in front of me were waving so I started waving too and she waved back, it was cute. She came on in a purple dress and impressed everyone as always, returned for "Closer to Fine". Natalie was really incredible the second night and was even more hyper with a wireless mic for the first time that she did lots of cute tricks with. She once brought out a white ribbon on a wand and waved that around for a second, danced some more, it was funny. Sarah came out and I've never screamed so loud in my life. In moments of complete silence I felt compelled to fix that and screamed "Go Sarah!" or "Sarah, I love you" every chance I got, she had to have heard me. She was awesome and did a completely different set list, opening with "Sweet Surrender" removing "Elsewhere" and "BAM", I think, adding "Wait" and closing with "Adia". The last night Sarah closed with a big group cover song of "Mother, Mother" or whatever that catchy old tune is called. In conclusion, two kick ass days of my summer filled with music, friends, and fun, and I have Sarah McLachlan to thank for that. I'd like to hear from others who were there or have been to Lilith already!!! Please email sweetlifex@aol.com Forgetmenot, Dulce "Time is a beautiful thing.
