Subject: [lilith-fair-fans] *A quickie review of the June 23 Shoreline Lilith* Just got home (it definitely isn't fun trying to get out of the Shoreline carpark after a big concert like Lilith!) and thought I'd post a little quickie something to whet your Lilith appetites...if you don't want to find out what went on at the Shoreline Lilith today, skip the rest of this message...actually no big deal since I'll probably end up writting rubbish here as my rudimentary brain processes stopped functioning a while back... First of all, it was great to have Shelby and Fred visit from Florida, also Travis from BC...hanging out with the incomparable Traci, sweet Bazierella, mistress Lisa, seeing Bill Wynn, Etta, & friends again, meeting for the first time Kelly the cutie, Kristina & sis, Jo from Scotland...didn't see Aurorah (but got the Sarah Vogue Poster you sent me as a surprise - thanks so much! :) Oh, Jess A., got your message, will try to hook up with you tomorrow, sorry to you and all the others who have emailed me recently (the twins, Emily, Mary [got your Bryant Park pictures today, they're really wonderful!], Andrea, Annie (thanks for the phone call! :), Tab, Chris, Michael, etc.), I'll try to get back to you after I'm done with all these shows...and to a certain fumblerette who had left me an, er, slightly inebriated message on my machine 3:30 am, please don't worry, it was sweet hearing from you, hope you feel better soon, and er, try to behave, eh?! *winks* OK, time to take off my critic/reviewer hat and just be a fan, so please bear with my superficial rambling on...this will not be particularly articulately written up, that's certain! zzzzzzzzzzzzzzz..... Oops, sorry, just fading out...what I meant was we had an absolutely brilliant time, and if this particular Lilith is anything to go by, all of you will be in for a real treat this summer... :) Autour De Lucie's enjoyable performance was watched by quite a few people, including Tara and Bill (lounging around on the lawn completely unrecognised and unharrassed by the audience), Terry, Cathy, Dave, Nicole, etc...we said a quick hello to Cathy (relaxing without her video/photo duties for once) and Leanne (completely tied up and overworked!). Tara gave everyone hugs and Bill could be heard discussing esoteric Mac stuff (G4 processors, clock speeds, etc), also mentioned that Tara would be doing a songalong with the Indigo Girls later on... Lhasa did a pretty good set, and Billie Myers got the crowd going on the 2nd stage...we were right next to Ash and Brian by the soundboard, they seemed very appreciative of Billie's show, and it was cool how they could just hang out there without being recognised or bothered by autograph seekers, in spite of Ash's blue-tinged hair... Tara then did a strong set, including a new song that I haven't heard before. Bill and her attracted a big crowd round the Village Stage! Me'shell's performance was quite impressive on the Main Stage, and K's Choice rocked the audience as they had done at the WPB Winter Lilith...Camille was watching in appreciation from the side-stage, as she did with Erykah Badu who also had Sarah and her little baby (Erykah's, not Sarah's!) checking her out... The Indigo Girls, wow, what energy live (as always)! During their various numbers, they had Natalie come out to dance with them, M'shell to play bass, K's Choice to sing and play along, and swept the crowd off their feet with a surprise appearance by Joan Baez... later Sarah joined her childhood idol Joan in a most moving and historic rendition of "The Water Is Wide"...finally Tara, Sarah, Sarah Bettens, Ash, Sean, etc got together with the IGs though Sarah made a goofy face after missing her cue for her part *heh*...Tara was in the spotlight with a solo verse and some upfront harmonies (she seemed to be reveling in the attention!), and Amy even mentioned at the end, "thanks to Tara and friends"! :) Natalie was quite a whirling dervish when she wasn't at the piano, dancing constantly and waving to different sections of the audience as she moved up and down the sides... Finally, there was a much more confident, radiant, smiling and "having fun" Sarah capping off an incredible evening...unlike last year at the Shoreline Lilith when she followed local and popular figure Tracy Chapman, and Surfacing hasn't come out yet, thus resulting in about a quarter of the crowd leaving during her set in order to beat the traffic out of the venue, this time almost everyone stayed, giving her the most rousing reception at the heels of a most amazing IG set with all the special guests and sing-alongs! It was fun watching her and the band having such a good time, and Sarah sticking her tongue at Ash in the percussion crescendo during the closing bars of "Ice Cream" *hee*...after encoring "Sweet Surrender", Sarah then brought up to the stage all the remaining artists who wanted to participate, and proceeded to further wow us...Tara again got a solo verse (she and Sarah were interacting a lot onstage with glances, offstage with hugs and arms round each other...), as did Natalie, Sarah, K's Choice, etc. Well, I think I'm fading, so best to let the others put in a word or two before I cross-post (I know, I know, I shouldn't do it, but if Whitney can do it, then... :) All I can say is, Lilith is back, and even more value for the money (in terms of diversity, sing-along collaborations, performances, etc.), if tonight's show is anything to go by... See some of you tomorrow at Tara's instore in Campbell, and at the Shoreline again! Yay!!!!! *fumblecheers!* Edward Uh, sorry, no cute or clever signatures to be found here. So there ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^ ==================================================================== Hey, Fred here! :) Shelby and I have made our journey to the west coast safely and took in a spectacular show at Shoreline. I met a whole new slew o'fumblers in the last 24 hours....Tracy, Lisa R., Bazie, and lots more (I'm tired...so sue me! :P) and I'm happy to say that fumblers are some of the absolute coolest people on the planet! :) Anyway, I did get to meet Tara & Bill for the first time. Since they have yet to play Florida, I have to fly way out here to catch them. :D Oh yeah...during Autour de Lucie's set at the village stage, it might as well have been a makeshift Nettwerk headquarters. All the folks were there including Cathy, Nicole, Terry, and many others. There's some more to add I'm sure, but it's really late, so I'll sign off for now. Btw, anyone in the Bay Area planning on going to the Guinness Fleadh festival this Sunday? If so, please email Edward! :P Thanks. Anyway, g'night, all! Here's Shelby... ==================================================================== Oh, where do I start... so much to say. I got to talk to Cathy whom was able to enjoy herself for the day (no cameras or video for Nettwerk). Autour was really good. By the time I got to the second stage, Llasa was in the midst of her next to last song. It was cool to go from French to Spanish singers! Billie Myers was next and guess what Edward spotted Ash & Brian right behind the sound board. We were 3 ft away! Billie has alot of energy, but I'm not a real fan of her music. Tara was on next and I heard the beginning of her set on the way over. Unfortunately, there were so many ppl that we were way back. She debuted a new song! Next it was onto the main stage. Our seats were 4th row at the end of the aisle, across from the backstage area. I had binoculars, so I caught a certain someone watching the other gals. Me'shell D. was the first main stage and she rocks. Camille watched most of her set. K's Choice was on the second stage, but late going on. Fred & I decided to get something to eat. We finally find a short line and once at the window were told several items were unavailable :( It made me mad. We ate while K's Choice was onstage. They totally rocked!! It was Ms. Badu's turn. Wow! She sounds exactly as she did on her Live CD. Backstage: Camille watched most of her set, Sarah made a brief visit and I saw Erykah's son in the arms of older woman that I assume was his grandma (Seven is a little cutie). The Indigo Girls were fantastic!! Everyone was standing and dancing, as is usual for the IG. They brought out a special guest, Joan Baez, and the place went wild. Me'shell played bass for a song. Joan & Sarah joined them for "The Water is Wide." What a cool rendition!! They brought K's Choice along with Sean (Mr. Feedback) for "Rockin' in the Free World" which blew me away. "Closer to Fine" ended the set, and Tara was featured on vocals:)... of course Sarah sang too. Damn those boys have the Playboy Channel on again!! Natalie was very energetic! She danced all over the stage and ran up the both sides of the stage. Nat played mostly new stuff. Her six piece band is really good, including the trumpet player. Sarah was absolutely incredible!!!! She had on a tight black half top and had a red shirt underneath, though some skin showed (had to add that as T-boy will make some comment). The opening was "Adia" then "Black and White". Glowstix were ready for "Witness." Camille smiled. "Ice Cream" in the middle of the set was kind of different, but I liked it. "Elsewhere," "Good Enough" and BAM were slightly different arangements. SS ended her set. She brought everyone out to sing a Marvin Gaye song. Yeah! That's all for me.. ==================================================================== - -------------------------------------------------------- To unsub, mail majordomo@smoe.org with: unsubscribe lilith-fair-fans - -or-- unsubscribe lilith-fair-fans-digest ------------------------------ End of lilith-fair-fans-digest V1 #18 *************************************
