If you've been checking out the Lilith Fair web site lately, you may or may not have noticed that a book on Lilith Fair is going to soon be made available in book stores across North America. The book is called FROM LILITH TO LILITH FAIR, by author Buffy Childerhose, who writes a weekly culture column for the alternative weekly newspaper HOUR, based in Montreal. The book is being published by Madrigal Press. One of the highlights of this book are that it features an introduction by Sarah herself. You'll also find exclusive interviews and reactions to the festival by the organizers and performers from last year's tour, previously unpublished photographs, and 'behind the scenes' information on how the event was conceived and the impact of the tour for women in music, and the media's reaction to it. As an interesting addition, the book also features historical profiles of such cool pioneering women as Murasaki Shukibu, considered the world's first novelist, to Countess Ada Lovelace, daughter of Lord Byron and inventor of the world's first computer programming language. Quite a number of other interesting women are profiled as well, such as Rosa Parks, Emma Goldman, and Mary Wollstonecraft, to name a few. It also features profiles of the numerous performers who took part in Lilith Fair '97. You can order it in advance from our Mailorder Dpt. here at Nettwerk, and it will hit book stores in Canada and in select Starbucks (in both Canada and the U.S.) on *Friday, June 19th*. The official date of when it will hit book stores in the U.S. is still to be determined, but we'll keep you posted when we get a confirmed date. Our Mailorder Dpt. will be able to ship it before the official release date, so be sure to contact them for more info (toll-free at 1-800-764-3472 or email: mail.orders@nettwerk.com). Finally, as a small tribute to 'Seinfeld' and the last episode that airs tonight, I'd like to take a special quote from Mr. George Costanza, as it would seem to adequately describe the weather here in Vancouver today should you be walking by the Pacific and looking out over the water... Here it is: "The sea was angry that day, my friends, like an old man trying to send back soup in a deli." All the best to the 'Seinfeld' crew in future endeavours! YES!!!!!! With visions of front row centre or at least exalted pit status, I swaggeringly made my request...and guess what, could only get Section 300, Row M, Seat 321???????? In the grand scheme of things, this is not all that bad a ticket, it's at the very back of the 2nd section behind the pit, 18 rows back and all the way to the side at stage left, but come on, the seat request was made promptly 2 minutes after tickets went on sale, and for a SINGLE ticket not a block of 4 or 6...don't tell me all the best seats were already reserved for ticket agencies (i.e. the more established scalpers), industry and the "haves" of society, right? :( Anyway, here ends my mercifully moderately lengthy ramble and rant... how did everyone else do? Hopefully better than me! :0) Jill and Michelle, did you guys get pit seats (so that I can pretend to come visit you and conveniently forget to go back to my own seat *hee*)? Wish I could have sat with you lasses but alas there was no way my cheque could have got to you in time via the Post Office... Also appreciate the Section 13L-Row R tickets for the 15th, not the greatest but at least I'll enjoy your cool company ...how did you do, Lois, for the NYC dates? I'm looking forward to seeing you, Shannon, Aly and all the rest! :) And thanks to Michelle too for the WPB ticket, best of luck, Fred, in your endeavours for the Orlando seats, Fred!!! My dad came up with an idea that we could be at 2 Ticketmaster places at once(we used cellular phones) and we could see who got the best spot in the line. So we were at one Thriftway my dad at another. They called his lottery and he got 3rd in line(pretty darn good), then they called the number at our store, and we got FIRST IN LINE, it was soooooo awesome. I live in staten island, and normally i would go to pnc or jones beach for a show like this, but the line-ups there were not great, and the lineup at hershey was great, so i decided to try to get tix for there. well, after weeks of thinkin that this show did not exist (because it wasnt coming up at ticketmaster online, hershey park online, and also when i called ticketmaster they had no dea what i was talking about) finally friday i sat down and dedicated like an hour to get as much info as i could, since i\the lilith website said it was going on sale on may 16th. ok so fdinally i got my answer: i couldnt buy the tix in staten island. i thought that was unfair...especially since i cant stand tryin to buy tix over the phone. but i had to, or else i couldnt go. so saturday morning i set up my phones (i have 3 lines) and 2 were pensylvania ticketmaster #s and one was the long island one i usually use (when i called friday, they told me i could buy my tix using the long island #) anyway..i called at 9:52 and i got through, but the lady said i couldnt buy the tix yet, and i couldnt stay on the line. 3 minutes later i called and thas when the lines got busy...i was pissed. finally after like a halh hour i got through on the LI #, and waited like 5 minutes for the guy to tell me that i couldnt buy the tix throught him, although i had been told i could the night before. again i was pissed. but ididnt give up. finally a few minutes later i got through on a pa # and got my tix. the seats aren so great, but hey...im glad i even got them thats my story bye bye tara - -------------------------------------------------------- To unsub, mail majordomo@smoe.org with: unsubscribe lilith-fair-fans - -or-- unsubscribe lilith-fair-fans-digest ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 18 May 1998 11:55:35 PDT From: "Ben-Zion Caspi" Subject: [lilith-fair-fans] Re: New Sarah Video >From witness-request@listserv.islandnet.com Fri May 15 14:50:15 1998 >Received: by listserv.islandnet.com id m0yaSMl-0010BWC for desormeaux@hotmail.com; Fri, 15 May 1998 14:50:11 -0700 (PDT) >Resent-Date: Fri, 15 May 1998 14:50:11 -0700 (PDT) >Old-Return-Path: >Old-X-Envelope-To: >Message-Id: <3.0.32.19980515175024.006ff074@192.168.0.1> >X-Sender: mattd#pemail.net@192.168.0.1 >X-Mailer: Windows Eudora Pro Version 3.0 (32) >Date: Fri, 15 May 1998 17:50:27 -0400 >To: lilith-fair-fans@smoe.org,witness@fumbling.com >From: Matt >Subject: New Sarah Video >Mime-Version: 1.0 >Content-Type: text/plain; charset="us-ascii" >Resent-Message-ID: <"DJ1I5C.A.-2G.RiLX1"@listserv.islandnet.com> >Resent-From: Witness@listserv.islandnet.com >X-Mailing-List: archive/latest/133 >X-Loop: Witness@listserv.islandnet.com >Precedence: list >Resent-Sender: Witness-request@listserv.islandnet.com > >Hello everyone. > > Today, as I just flipped on Muchmusic, there was an ending of some >concert footage. The July issue of VOGUE is out on the stands, just picked it up to some very done up pics. The order is : Sarah McLachlan, K's Choice, N'Dea Davenport, (group photo): Chantal Kreviazuk/Kay Hanley/Rebekah/Bic Runga/Tara MacLean, Mary Lou Lord, Missy Elliott, Liz Phair. copy reads (sorry guys, can't write it up each time so you'll all get all of these): Sarah - The Trailblazer: Sarah blew the old rules out of the water when she created Lilith Fair. Her vision has given talented female musicians the chance to shine and to grow as a community of artists. Like her music, her work with Lilith Fair embraces a strength and passion that has become her trademark. (dreamy kinda look on her face, LOTS of makeup, black feather boa, black top, dark jeans with her hand inside her jeans... Group photo - The Tour de Force: These women are the next generation of superstars. All accomplished singers, songwriters, and musicians - carving a path as diverse as the styles they wear here. Chantal - long denim dress, heels, Hanley - black stretch top/bra, jacket, jeans, Rebekah - overalls, Bic Runga (does anyone know WHO this is?) - denim shirt/jeans, Tara - looking strikingly different from the rest in a "Levi's Tank Top and silverTab Stretch Flares" - looks kinda glamorous - kinda leopardlike jacket over black top/pants. Mary Lou Lord The Girl Next Door: Performing in Boston's subway tunnels or being photographed for her album singing in her favorite pair of Levi's jeans, Mary Lou plays her heart out to an audience of five or five thousand. She's at a mike, long hair, white shirt and jeans and strappy heels. Liz Phair - The Realist: An art major in college, Liz quickly found her passion reached beyond painting and into music. Her songs have a unique, up-front reality that comes from being comfortable in her own skin. (she has her hands in her hair, all kinda mussed up, lots of eye makeup, tank top and rolled down jeans, her usual sexy look) Levi's Jeans is a sponsor of Lilith Fair, a national music festival and tour of female artists celebrating community, creativity, and originality. The first 1,000 people who call 1.800.472.0191 will receive a CD of choice from any one of the featured Lilith Fair artists. phone lines open weekdays 9-5, while supplies last. :) Rachel "For there are no new ideas.
