There were 18 contestants: Liz Brown Angela Motter Melanie Sparks Trio Edith's Wish 45 Mercy Libby Buisson Gerlinda Grimes Sally Smithwich Sheri Kling Caroline Aiken Selene McCarthy Cirrus Crave Sonia Leigh Tammy Fowler Christian-Durand Alastor Heather Mitchell The blues duo Christian-Durand took first place with a song called "Dry County." This duo featured one of the ladies on Guitar and one playing the harmonica. Dressed ala the Blue Brothers, this comic pair captured the essence of old style blues. The first runner was a band new to the Atlanta scene called Heather Mitchell. This high energy trio featured a guitarist, a vocalist, and an extremely talented Cello/violinist. With clear, crisp vocals and strong song composition, this is definately a band on the move... Other KyL picks for the night: *Gerlinda Grimes, with her earthy but distinct tones, presented the best written song called "First Time I Saw the Snow" *Atlanta veteran Caroline Aiken gave the audience a taste of what a profession musician looks like on stage. *Crane presented a solid musical performance in their typical dreamy style. Unlike many other vocalists dealing with this style music, the vocals were clear, crisp and entrancing. Street Date: June 19 The book From Lilith to Lilith Fair explores how the most successful concert tour of 1997, the all-woman Lilith Fair, came to pass. Tracing Lilith's roots from the Monterey Pop festival in the sixties, to the Michigan Womyn's Music festival and on to Lollapalooza in the 90s, the book provides a thoughtful discussion of this blossoming cultural phenomenon. The book includes quotes from performers and organizers, profiles of the main stage acts, and an exploration of the media frenzy around the fair. As a creative and informative addition, there are profiles of sixteen pioneering women throughout history - - role models for all women - helping to situate Lilith Fair in a context by which it can best be understood. Designed by award-winning designer John Rummen, From Lilith to Lilith Fair is as beautiful as it is informative.
