Music does that for you, too? Can't say that any of Les' songs have had that effect on me (in fact, they make me feel quite joyful for the most part), but every now and again some convergence of emotions and lyrics and other circumstances conspire to turn on my "faucet." Isn't it great??? Thanks for your story, and all the best with your "epiphany." Looks like it's time to add our intro to those that have already appeared on this list. We're Mike and Eileen Strohmeyer of Raleigh, North Carolina. We moved here in stages over the past couple of years from the Washington, DC area, where we had just begun to get involved in the folk/singer/songwriter thing. We'd heard of Les, but hadn't yet had a chance to get out and see her perform. Our first foray into folk music in Raleigh was in January 1998 at the Irregardless Cafe which held monthly folk shows amid almost nightly jazz offerings to accompany dinner. Les was listed to appear later that year, but unfortunately by the time her date came up, the Irregardless folk series had ended. It turned out that Les was still scheduled to come to town for a radio interview on her way home from a gig in Winston-Salem, and she wound up staying overnight with us. We got to spend almost an entire day with her, and even though we were total strangers, we got along really great. We had a late lunch and then I had to leave on a business trip, but she and Eileen spent most of the afternoon together and even took in a movie that evening. We still hadn't heard her perform, but she was kind enough to leave us a copy of her "Fall From Grace" album. All it took was listening to the first cut ("Holy Land") and we were hooked. God, this woman can sure sing those delta blues!! We got "Sweet Perfume" at a show shortly after that, and are eagerly looking forward to next month when her new release comes out - the clips on her web site are a clear sign that this one will be a smash. The best part, though, is that Les is just a great person. We feel like old friends even though we've spent only about 24 total hours in her company. We're eager to get to hear her again live sometime soon, but we're even more eager for a chance to visit with her for a little while.
