'Are you just checking out your mojo? Am I just fighting off growing old?' A lot in that song about youth being behind her and the thoughts and feelings that stage of life begets. Here again, I read somewhere that Joni said her friends disliked it. But it has a lot of stuff going on in it. The sexy dance beat and the lines ...must I forgive you each time, and say you donbt know what you're doing... She addresses it to a partner but it touches on that day in age when you stand your ground and say, well, maybe I do have to go on forgiving, but I do not have to keep picking up the baggage of delusion. I am not old so I am told, but I was not born yesterday, so do not even start that crap with me. My heart is a smoking gun just now. It is an excellent song for certain days. ------------------------------ Date: Sun, 2 Aug 2015 14:34:14 +0000 (UTC) From: cecelia sonsini Subject: Sweet Bird, more NJC than JC I've been planning the next tattoos that I want to have done and, because Joni has been such a huge part of my life, was trying to think of a quote that that would have meaning enough to me that I'd want it permanently inked on my body. B After reading the posts about Sweet Bird I realized that "Sweet bird you are/briefer than a falling star" is the perfect quotefor me at this time of my life. B I'm 56 years old and have gone through a real "mourning" of the loss my youth over the past few years. B What really brought it all home was watching my mom, who is soon to be 93, age almost before my eyes. B She seems pretty ageless (kind of like Betty White) until she had a fall a couple of years ago and ended up in a rehab facility for a month. B A year ago my wife and I added a small apartment onto our house and my mom now lives here. B It's been a real eye-opening experience to see the changes that happen as we get older. B As a side note, luckily my mom is able to fully care for herself, although I do help her shower just to be safe. B She gets out and walks every day and, other than some hand tremors and some short term memory issues, she's healthy as a horse. So, thank you to the list for helping me find my Joni quote and thank you for allowing me to share a bit about what I'vebeen going through! ------------------------------ End of JMDL Digest V2015 #411 ***************************** ------- To post messages to the list, sendto joni@smoe.org Unsubscribe by clicking here: mailto:joni-digest-request@smoe.org?body=unsubscribe -------
