Finally, in response to others: I, too, ask the question: B where is the serious academic consideration of Joni Mitchell as a prominent part of music history and popular culture? B I'll partially answer my own question: B we haven't seen critical examination of Joni's work as we have for Bob Dylan's and perhaps that of a few of Joni's other male peers because Joni is considered a "chick writer," focusing on "women's concerns." B Dylan is "universal"; B Joni occupies a feminized ghetto. I know not everyone will agree with me, but that's sure how it looks from my neck of the woods. This conference is a very welcome step in the right direction. B Congratulations, Anita, for being an integral part of it.
