I think her early songs, too were influenced and were influencing the English prog scene. We know she wasn't the only one that was influenced by classical music and Tolkein. Consider: starting in 1972 she began writing songs with orchestral cadenzas and complex interludes (Judgement, Let the Wind Carry Me, Down to You) culminating in 1977 with Paprika Plains whose entire middle movement is piano and orchestra. Those were almost exactly the ascent and descent years of Prog music in terms of its inventiveness and popularity. Furthermore we know Joni was a fan of several English artists, Peter Gabriel, The Police, Sting, Seal. Isnt it plausible that she heard something like Yes at the time of Close to the Edge? She was back in L.A and FM stations were no doubt playing it. > > Anyone else like the theory? > > cheers > Dave ------------------------------ Date: Mon, 29 Jun 2015 17:26:40 -0700 From: "Randy Remote" Subject: Re: Chris Squire passed on @ 67 years Keystudio. Since there has been a response from Leslie Morris about Joni's condition, (thanks Les!) I can say honestly that I am even more pissed at Crosby ... I'm not sure if Joni wrote the line or he did but "a loud mouth is stricken deaf and dumb" I wonder if he will do another interview now apologizing. Well I guess I should just calm down and be happy that Joni is speaking and feeling better every day. Yeah!! I also think you are right that if TMZ hadn't caught the info about the ambulance or broke the news about the court filing we may have known much less, except for the fact that she cancelled her appearance at the SF Jazz tribute.
