There is a huge, ugly conflict brewing in this country. The tragedy in Charleston is just the latest to make the evening news. It follows on the heals of all of the reports of abuses of power coming to light in police forces all around the nation, including here in the city of Seattle which is known for its liberal political stance on most issues. As I said, I have a tendency to wring my hands and do nothing. Travis gets irritated with me for not reading the newspaper or paying attention to the television news. So I am guilty of some burying of my head in the sand. The news is depressing so I don't like to read or hear it. But it doesn't make the ugliness go away. Jon Stewart had some pertinent things to say about Charleston if anybody is interested.
